Do you have a song or two that your customers have come to always expect from you? Is it an opener or a closer, or what?
I close with "Happy Trails" and my regulars always smile and sing along when they hear it. It's always proceeded by "God Bless America" but I don't consider that a signature song as much I consider it almost mandatory for senior events. The other'must do' song of mine is "Put Your Head On My Shoulders" because the ladies and most of the men love it, but I don't considerate a signature song.

I'm not back gigging in Pubs fully yet, but any Restaurants I play as an instrumentalist they always ask me to play my own composition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oV4hPTFkSZA
The local radio station have been playing it for a few years so it's kind of gotten a little popular.

It might depend on the venue and clientele, but I generally will end with "What a Wonderful World" ... at one of my regular gigs there is at least one couple that ALWAYS wants to hear Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" ... my person favorite to sing - especially if I'm out at a club/restaurant and I know the musicians playing there and they ask me to sing a song or two - is "Summer Wind" ... t.

Depending on the audience and "feel" at the end of the night...or performance at a NH...I have several closing songs I pick from including those mentioned above plus "Goodnight Sweetheart" (Big Band and Rock versions), "I'll Be Seeing You", "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone", "The Party's Over" (Willie Nelson version..and occassionally the Peggy Lee version.
However, I found that if I do "For The Good Times" later in the evening, some in the audience think that that is the final song of the night. So, if I do it, I try to work it into the first set.
God Bless America and O Canada are also staples at the end of the night at some of the homeowner associations I work.

Yep, Goodnight Sweetheart Goodnight (McGuire Sisters) is our usual closer on the NH gigs. We also use The Casinos' Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye fairly often. There was one occasion at a Glasgow Rangers Supporters Club when we were about to leave the stage when the manager rushed up and said we had to play God Save The Queen before we left. Luckily, I've got a decent ear. Didn't want to start a sectarian war.

Russ ... thnx for the reminder ... a number of years ago I used to mix that in with "Arthur's Theme" played with a bossa style ... would play the MASH theme using a flute voice ... You could just see that some people recognized the tune, but couldn't think of what it was ... ... gonna have to 'resurrect' that ... thnx, t.
