They should be ashamed. Actually, I understand that Rap and Hip-hop originated in Latvia and Lithuania. Hmmmmmm. If we (Black folk) hadn't come up with those Madrigals, we probably wouldn't have any musical heritage at all.

Here's a joke for you to get the New Year off to a good start.

'After a series of misfortunes, a devoutly religious man turns to the heavens and says, "God, I've tried to be a good person all my life, why are you punishing me like this?" The clouds part and a majestic voice says, "I don't know, Donald, there's just something about you that pisses me off".

If you knew me Chas you'd know I never talk politics or religion, Happy New Year & sit down & play your C1 & try to smile once in a while you'll feel better.

With a humorous guy like Chas, you'd have to pry that smile off his face with a crowbar and still get nowhere.

Darn, had you added a period you'd have a correct sentence for once.

Donny, I'm with Chas on this one.

If this young performer is going to inspire young people, he should also be factual in music history. Young people should know where the Blues actually came from; and it ain't Ireland.

Hey get over where music actually originates from and simply play good music ... that is all that really matters. Certainly you can give credit to where you get it from ... but in the long run it really isn't important.

Years from now no-one really cares ... just make it sound good.

people are always trying to re write history. This young man does not know what he is talking about but he is no music historian and so noone has to place weight on anything he says.

I'm suprised to hear you say that. I think a great many people care. Maybe not on this forum, but in the larger world, people care. It's an important part of our heritage, of who we are and where we've been. Seems to me, the least we can do is be factual about it. People like Leonard Bernstein, and Wynton Marsalis (a Nobel laureate), and numerous other music historians, have dedicated their lives to making sure that it's (music) story is told (accurately) and preserved.

I know it's not smart to disagree with 'the boss', but hopefully there is room on this forum for opposing views. Spalding is right; 'someone is always trying to rewrite history'. If that person is in a position to influence and educate our youth, don't we have a responsibility to speak up? Perhaps this is not the right forum, but this is where it happened. JMO.
