I bought a Bryan Adams Unplugged DVD. I note that it appears that the sings off to the right side of the mic. Appears to not do it occasionally but for every note. Why? Anything to do with his raspy voice?

Wow, I *love* the bridge to this song, which is a favorite. In fact, Bryan Adams is one of my favorite artists. I went to a concert 25 years ago that my girlfriend ruined for me by getting mad at something totally stupid and uncalled for. I hope to see him again someday. With a brand new girlfriend.

Example of his singing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTdD1QqsrfI

I don't think its anything other than circumstances. It could've been the lights or something.

No, it's not an accident, I saw other footage where he is doing it. I have an entire concert DVD where he does it every song.

I agree, Bill:

He's definately singing to the side of the mic. Intentional? Probably.

Nice performance. Thanks for sharing.

he does it to control volume. when he is pushing out a harder louder note he moves off axis . its similar to some people moving the mic further away from their mouths when tney are going for higher notes in a song that they have to belt out.

I really like Bryan. My band has just started playing "Summer Of 69" and it is going down really well with our audiences.

I used to sell Microphones for a manufacture in my early selling days.
I would say it's good microphone technique and does eliminate popping on over modulated notes.

Reading this theme I cannot help but thinking of Belgian singer DANA WINNER. It always strikes me how exceptionally well she handles a microphone. Apart from being a beautiful woman with an angelic voice. Three links, the first is not the best as to audio quality, but the microphone technique is quite apparent.
The other two links are from the same show, a Christmas Special broadcast a couple of weeks ago. It will send shivers down your spines !!!!

You'll find singing off-axis often helps with plosives, if your voice is prone to them.
