Hello SeadooGsx,

All the sounds in G800 are available in G1000 = everything you can play on G800, you can also play on G1000.

G1000 have a new soundbank with several new sounds and several new variations on sounds. If you play G1000 styles which uses this new soundbank on G800 then it wouldnīt recognise the sounds. This can result in that G800 chooses wrong instrument or no instrument at all. The styles from G1000 sounds therefore more or less weird on G800.

Some of the G1000 styles however uses soundbanks that are available in G800. These stylse work well (=sounds exactly the same on both arrangers).

You can also change the instruments in a G1000 style so it uses soundbanks from G800. This you can do either in G1000 or in G800.

With a little tweak, you can get the new G1000 styles to sound very good in G800, though not as good as in G1000 with the newer soundbank.

When I had my G800, I found some G1000 styles on the net which I converted with good result. Unfortunately I donīt have them anymore. (I have the G1000 itself since tree years.)

Regards, Michael

When I converted the G1000 styles for G800 I just used the manual. In the "microedit" you can change every sounds CC and PC.

You have to edit every part (drums, bass etc...) and every variation (maj, min, 7, orig, vari, intro, etc...)and then save this as a new style. You change the CC (if I remember it correctly) from 0 (G1000) to 1 or 2 (older soundbanks available in G800 ).

This takes some time (and sweat the first times) but when youīve got used to it, you can edit a style in maybe 5 to 15 minutes or so depending of complexity.

I also use "microedit" to change strange sounding styles from other companies. Iīve edited lots of Ketron and Yamaha styles (allready converted to Roland - but strange sounding in some parts) this way to make them sound good on my keyboard.

UPM is a basic performance manager for PC (mac?) use (if it is the same Iīm thinking of). You canīt edit any styles, you can just name/rename and sort your performances. This is anyhow very handy sometimes, because it is very time consuming to do this directly on your keyboard.

Iīve seen an "UPS editor" somewhere on the net. This is a performance editor for PC. UPS lets you change everything that is changeble in a performance. Without changing the actual style itself it is possibel to save some style editing in a performance though. Ex. volumes, sounds, parts on/off.

Thank you for explain to me. I still confuse about UPM. I have down load few styles on the net, and it works great with my G-800. I pay attention that they all are .stl file, but UPM is .ups file. How can I make .ups file become a .stl file so I can put on floppy and play on my G-800. Thanks.

Thank you very much for your patient to lead me to the electronic music world. I'm vey new to the arranger style of G-800.

.stl file and .ups file are two different things. You canīt convert one of them to be the other. The ".stl" is (as you already know) the style file with its intro, ending etc. The ".ups" is a performance file and no style at all.

Your G800 has 192 performance memory places. It works like this. Every time you will play a song, you choose a style, voices for right and left hand, perhaps chorus and reverb settings, maybe equlizer, etc, etc. All this you can save in one of your 192 performances. You can also name every performance so that you later on will have a hint of what you have saved.

This means that G800 lets you save up to 192 different performances, all with various styles (from the 128 rom or from floppy!), voices for left and right hand etc. All suitable for whatever songs you want to play.

But when youīve filled upp your 192 performances, then what? Then you can save it (all 192 in one package) as ".ups" file. You can for instance have one ups with partysettings for younger audience with lot of synth, you can have one with your jazz favs with sax, etc and depending on occation you can load the ups you want and have immidiate link to suitable styles, sounds, effect settings, etc.

There are lots of styles (and some ready made .ups) on the net for your G800. Start with Rolands site here on Synth Zone.

Regards, Michael

Please consider that I'm very very new to this G-800 althought I have my G-800 for 3 years now. I just leave my G-800 for dust covering it. Is any source can I read more and experience more about those files. Thanks
