I purchased my T2 2 weeks ago and am in the experimental stage. I have owned a T1 for nearly over 2 years.
Problem? It may be my ears but some of the string voices (Live Strings, Oberstrings, etc.) seem to have some distortion if you listen to them closely. I especially noticed it when I was just playing a simple piano/string layer.
Am I imagining the lack of purity or is there something going on?
I would appreciate your comments.

Thanks

I haven't noticed any distortion, but I'll have to give a closer listen. I have noticed that the SA voices have low volume when you play legato, but come to life at stacatto. That is the way they were intended, but the legato volume is adjusted too low for my taste. I have tweaked my after-touch and volume settings to be just right.

What speakers are you using?

I have tested them with my close field monitors and my wonderful old stereo system. As I mentioned on another group, the humidity has been very low. I wonder whether or not that is an issue. It isn't with my T1.
Thanks

sometimes distortion manifests itself as overmodulation. Perhaps the output of the T2 is too much for your stereo or monitors?

Are all sounds distorted or only the strings?

I don't think humidity will affect sound pureness.

The other voices sound fine. It is primarily in the strings that the problem exists. When I get more time I will experiment further. I'm still open for suggestions.
Thanks

No intention to insult or offend - but have you checked where the modulation wheel is set. (haven't received my T2 yet, but I have had this problem with other keyboards!)

The modulation wheel is set at minimum. One other forum suggested that 2 voices may not be a good fit. They suggested I test different voices...pianos with strings and see whether or not there is any conflict.
Again, the T1 does not display this higher frequency distortion/noise.....and the noise is not deafening by any means. The sound is not clean (the only comparison are the acoustic SA guitars that sound awesome).
And, no offense. I have made some idiotic errors in the past. I hope I am not doing something stupid that is leading to this issue.

I think I found the problem. Some of the voices have distortion effects set. I found this by creating a registration and changing the preset effects for a voice, then I selected a voice which sounded distorted to me. Lo and behold, it is now a nice clear, clean voice.

Bob, in custom voice settings at the bottom of the screen, see if there are any effects selected for your voice.

I could only find an on/off setting for the "part" which, in my case, did not work.
I know at this point I'm being dense. However, I did find that when the Initial Touch button is deactivated the distortion seems eliminated.
This is also deceiving because the full sound of the voice (in this case the Live Strings) is presented when a key is depressed.
Turning the Initial Touch back on yields the touch sensitivity which, in the case of the strings, gives a more distorted sound as the strings become louder.
Now if I could, at first blush, do what you suggested, I would be a happy camper. But, lo, I have not grasped your solution yet! But give me time (or an alternative explanation) and I will prevail!

Thanks,

Bob

This may not be it , but worth a try, re/initialising, mine did this on strings and quit when I did this??? I've only had mine a week, and man I'm really in the dark, after coming from a psr9000.....pose

Afterthought... for some reason my ty2 won't initialise just by holding demo down and starting, I have to hold the highest white note also.....go figure??? You might check to make sure the initialise screen comes on........pose
