Hey guys, I'm kinda new in this site, but I'm a working musician, and i do all kinds of Jewish gigs. I have recently come to a dilemma with arrangers, and am planing to buy the Yamaha Tyros 2 after viewing it, researching it, and playing it, but cannot decide. The problem is that aside from playing Rock, jazz, euro stuff, i also play Oriental music, and i know that the T2 isn;t really for Oriental music, but it does have the sampling that allows you to sample w/e u need to make it for your own use. And i was just wondering if any of you guys who have experince with this board tell me whether i can play oriental music on it and if it will be good enough for live performance stuff and gigs. Thanks

Check out this German guy and what he has done with the T2:

As far as I know he will sell his stuff if you contact him.

Good luck

Eric

There are plenty of oriental styles in sty format for free on the internet and I'm sure some companies will sell oriental styles as well. You can easily edit the sounds inside the T2 if oriental is your cup of tea. It will be more than good enough for live performances.
I'm sure owners of T2's on here would gladly send you oriental styles if they have any.

I see. Thanks for the demos and all that info. But i was wondering if i just sample my own oriental beats and sounds into it, and be able to play the oriental music, will it sound like it should sound in terms of the realism of sound and the oriental styles?

That's what the guy did in the demos that I gave you.

Well, to me it sounded more like he edited the sounds, and edited the styles as well.

Ye i did actually. The PA80 isn't bad, but theres something about Korg i don't like, maybe the rough sound or something. I also heard the keys and buttons of the PA80 break too quick.

All the Keyboards that i have owned were Roland, which were the VA-76, G-800, and EM-55OR. Never had much experience with Korg or Yamaha. Can anyone give me some points about Yamaha or Korg that i might not know?

AnarchikNYC1: I have done several Jewish gigs (parties and services) using the T2. I have found it to be quite versatile for this purpose. I did not have a library of middle-eastern/oriental (aka oriental) sounds/styles to use as samples for the T2. However, I found a variety of oriental styles on various web sites. Particularly useful was the archive of the yahoo PSR-Styles group.
http://www.spectromagic.com/psrgroup/

I was able to find a variety of styles that I has able to adapt. There was a Yamaha keyboard, the A1000, that is no longer available that had a variety of Oriental styles. Many of these styles and others can be found on the above listed site.

There was a rumor that Yamaha was going to make the A1000 style/sound set available specifically for the T2. However, I haven't heard anything about that since and have found lots of good material as noted above.

RobertG: Thanks a lot for that info. By the way, i know about the A1000 Oriental, and i played on it a year ago in Europe. It was pretty good, in terms of styles, but i wasn't really into its sounds that much. But lately i have talked to a specialist in Yamaha, and he told me that i can use the factory oriental styles from the A1000 in the T2, but they might sound a bit diff on the T2 because the T2 doesn't have the oriental drums and accompaniments, so i'm not sure how that would work out.
