Hi Folks!
Synthzone buddy Tapas just called me a little a while ago after having spent most of the first day of Namm at the Korg Booth. The big hoopla at the Korg booth was of course the Kronos. Impressive for sure, but the strangest, but perhaps not unexpected, thing was that the new Korg PA3X merely sat alone all day in a corner of the room with absolutely no one paying attention or even noticing it. This though, gave Tapas the opportunity to spend plenty of time examining & checking it out, albeit alone, yet unable to actually play it because it wasn't connected up to its speaker unit, and no headphones were available for private audition either.
This said, Tapas' initial impression was that it looked less like an arranger with a more pro synth fit and finish typically reserved for workstations. He feels the keyboard is more similar to a piano touch (stiffer) than the more responsive quick synth feel of say, the Yam Tyros 4, and that the PA3X's screen basically unchanged from the PA2X. Until he's able to witness a demonstrator playing it or able to play it himself he's unable to judge the sounds or its operation. Hopefully tomorrow or on Saturday or Sunday, he'll be able to return to the Korg Booth and actually play it. Fingers crossed.
That said, Tapas checked the Naam Korg booth product Demo schedule to see when the PA3X would be demoed, and though the schedule shows a specific product demo booked for every available time slot, and for 'every day' of the show, there's no mention of the PA3X scheduled whatsoever. It appears from this that Korg's interest in promoting the PA3X at Naam is minimal at best.
