Hi Folks! smile Synthzone buddy Tapas just called me a little a while ago after having spent most of the first day of Namm at the Korg Booth. The big hoopla at the Korg booth was of course the Kronos. Impressive for sure, but the strangest, but perhaps not unexpected, thing was that the new Korg PA3X merely sat alone all day in a corner of the room with absolutely no one paying attention or even noticing it. This though, gave Tapas the opportunity to spend plenty of time examining & checking it out, albeit alone, yet unable to actually play it because it wasn't connected up to its speaker unit, and no headphones were available for private audition either. frown

This said, Tapas' initial impression was that it looked less like an arranger with a more pro synth fit and finish typically reserved for workstations. He feels the keyboard is more similar to a piano touch (stiffer) than the more responsive quick synth feel of say, the Yam Tyros 4, and that the PA3X's screen basically unchanged from the PA2X. Until he's able to witness a demonstrator playing it or able to play it himself he's unable to judge the sounds or its operation. Hopefully tomorrow or on Saturday or Sunday, he'll be able to return to the Korg Booth and actually play it. Fingers crossed.

That said, Tapas checked the Naam Korg booth product Demo schedule to see when the PA3X would be demoed, and though the schedule shows a specific product demo booked for every available time slot, and for 'every day' of the show, there's no mention of the PA3X scheduled whatsoever. It appears from this that Korg's interest in promoting the PA3X at Naam is minimal at best. frown

Does that surprise you? Not me...the US is as we know only a minor maketing target for all arrangers. I'm quite surprised they anounced the PA3 there at NAAM. Guess they thought they should.

Europe/Asia that's where the $$ are for arrangers.

But, Let's hope some good demo's come from the 3 day NAAM show.

Actually yes! Though I certainly didn't expect the hoopla Kronos is getting, I also didn't expect a complete ommision frown of it from Korg's product demo show schedule either. Interestingly enough, Yamaha,on the other hand, has got Martin Harris demoing the Yamaha Tyros 4 cool at regular scheduled times each day in the Yamaha Booth. smile

Let us hope it's a programming error as far as the printed guide goes...

I can't believe Korg would bring it along to just leave in a corner.

They are looking for maximum press mileage from the Kronos, even to the point of not even letting people plug in some headphones on the PA.

AS evidenced in another thread, they obviously have no qualms about demos being out there, so obviously some dealers have been given the go-ahead.

Let's not judge this thing 'til it's over smile

Hey guys...it is possible the were not originally going to announce it until Musikmesse! Then they decided to get it done now...that would mean there was little time to plan for demos, and marketing in general???

Maybe we willl find that out from one of our inside folks that are there talking to them??

The Korg Pax3 thread has a video demo made at NAMM.
Presenter is chided for lack of personality but managed to show some nice sounds and styles.
regards, chuck
