MIC/Receiver SHURE SLX-2
Receiver SHURE SLX-4

Experiencing severe mic feedback problems. Can't increase mic volume at all without feedback. Have adjusted Equalizer built into the KN-7000.

I have several friends who had KN-7000 who now p[lay TYROS 3's and 4's. They each say they had bad feedback problems with KN-7000 but none with TYROS product.

Thank you.

You didn't say which Mic capsule you have fitted to the SLX-2.

Looking at the spec. there is an option to fit several different mic capsules. As far as I can see, the popular option is the SM58.
The SM58 cartridge has a Cardiod (Unidirectional) response which helps to combat feedback. If you are using a cartridge which has a Omnidirectional response, then you are more likely to get feedback problems, when the mic is close to the KN7000 speakers.
In the past, I have used the KN7000 mic system without any problems and still use it occasionally - purely for announcements - not vocals!!

Bill:

Thanks for the prompt response. The Shure System I have is as follows:

Mic - Transmitter SLX-2, 2004-DJ1314

Receiver- SLX-4, 1C 618A-SLX-4

Don't know how to determine if the mic is an SM58 with Cardiod response or not. When I use this system with my KN7000 and my Fender PD 250 PA System, the feedback is not too bad and I guess I can manage it. However, when I work with my friend and we use his PD-250 Fender System and he uses his TYROS3 and wireless mic along with a separate subwoofer and his monitor, the feedback is unreal.

My TYROS friends say the problem is the Technics KN7000 and that these keyboards had a real major problem with MIC feedback. I just don't know.

I'm going to drop a note to Shure. Any assistance you or other members can provide will be appreciated.

thank you.

Hi Len,

I have not seen the Shure Mic-Transmitter which you are using, but I would imagine that there is some form of identification on the Mic Capsule - maybe inside when the capsule is removed from the transmitter body.

I don't quite understand your problem since it would seem that you are using the Fender PA for you Mic Transmitter / Receiver syatem. If this is the case, why would you be using the Mic system of the KN7000 ? Surely the SLX-4 Receiver is just directly connected to the Fender - not the KN7000?

Hi Bill:

Appreciate your trying to help me out.

Just spent the afternoon working on the problem. I would prefer to use the Mic system of the KN-7000 in order to avail myself of the adjustments available within that system. However, the feedback problem is continuing. Switched the MIC input to direct into the PD 250 and that solved the feedback problem. I'd still like to use the KN7000 mic system but that will have to wait for another day.

Thank you.

Nothing so basic as adjusting the mic volume slide - top left hand side of the keyboard I trust...Rog

Hi,

There are several ways to connect mic to KN 7000.

1: Connecting the Mic socket on the "MIC" on the back of the KN 7000. This should only be applied if no external reverb unit is available. This is the worst option, as no good mic setting is available.

2. Mic connector for external mixer, reverb or Vocalist and then into "LINE IN" on the back of the KN 7000. The scheme is to "LINE IN VOLUME" place alongside the volume control.

3. As before, but not in LINE IN now AUX IN. Disadvantage: The mic volume can not be controlled (see page 45 and 200 of the manual).

4. The best option remains the PA system. Separate control of KN 7000 and Mic.

Len, If your PA does a good job why not disconnect the monitor speakers on the keyboard. then you would be able to turn the mic. volume up.
When I was using a Tyros 3 that was my setup. The Tyros 3 does not have speakers. There are some that use a small momitor speaker and not the onboard keyboard speakers, although that translates into carry more stuff.

I share the same feedback problem and sloved part of the problem by using a better mic.

Another thought Len : If you are playing your KN7000 through an external Amp - as I assume you are - if you turn off the KN7000's internal speaker system, this may help, since it would seem that your feedback is from the internal speakers to your Mic. You will still be able to adjust all the Mic parameters as normal, using the KN7000's controls.

You can turn off the internal speakers in two ways :

1. Press Program Menus > Sound > Monitor Settings > Off
or
2. Just push a dummy Jack plug into the headphone socket.....
