I haven't seen many comments on the latest upgrade for the SD1. Is anyone out there using it? What are the changes? Are there problems? I'm currently on 3B but would like to get up to date if I can do so without creating any problems. Will someone please describe the enhancements this would add to my current set up. I love this keyboard. With few exceptions, it has the best, most realistic sounds of any keyboard. I would like to see some rhythm enhancements and just a couple of instrumental sound improvements.

Hi, I also own a SD1 and I did install the 4.0c OS....in comparation of the 3.0x...well, to start, you have an option in the 4.0 OS..to have newer and (even Finer sounds to my ears)...also an embelish and improved dinamic alocation(a little better), the user styles also easier to load. Also you can download the new styles too. In a nutshell, I am very happy with mine.

Gene,
As mdorantes stated, the latest is OS4.0c.
Since the jump from 3.x to 4.x the sounds improved very much : e.g. cleaner epiano's.

Since 4.x problems as note-dropouts and latency while playing full chords were introduced. Fortunately Ketron improved the OS recently and they reduced the problems to almost zero.

I would go for 4.0c with new sounds if I were you.

I do hope Ketron finds time soon to eliminate ALL problems.

Hi Gene

Also in my opinion the sounds have improved from 3.x to 4.x, and 4.0c has eliminated the problems with the drop-outs as far as I was able to test.

Try it out and should you not like it you still can go back to 3.0b!

Sorry I forgot to mention, that besides new sounds there are quite a few new features in Rel. 4.x. There is a complete list on www.ketron.it available.

What is it you have to back up again?

I have registrations, and also user styles imported from my Korg. I don't even remember how I put them on in the first place anymore.

Can someone explain how to protect your info and how to put it back on?

then I might try the new OS...

Ummmm. maybe I'm slow, but I don't understand what to download? They give three options. I presume I ignore the third as I don't have the SD1 "Plus". But which of the first two do I use?

The Original Software Upgrade per SD1 or the Standard Software?

Electronic Keyboard SD1 Rel. 4.0c - SD1 Plus
October 2004
Click here for the Version SD1 4.0b

1) Download the .exe file:
Original Software Upgrade per SD1
Standard Software
Upgrade per SD1 Plus
2) Unzip the file downloaded from internet and copy the 36 files in a 1,44MB floppy disk.
3) Switch off the instrument and insert the floppy disk with the extracted files in the keyboard's driver .
4) Switch on the instrument while holding down the tab " F6 ", on the display , after the keyboard's logo, the following writings will appear :
Loading : DIRECTORY
Loading : DC000000.BIN
Loading : DD000000.BIN
………..
………..
Loading : FF000000.BIN
WRITE PROGRAM ON FLASH 0
WRITE PROGRAM ON FLASH 2
…………
…………
WRITE PROGRAM ON FLASH 35
5) At the end of loading , the instrument will reset automatically and the updating phase is completed .

Hi!

The "Original Software Upgrade" is a upgrade for those who installed OS 4 while keeping the sounds from the OS 3.

But I presume you also want to install the new sounds from the OS 4, like I did, so just download the "Standard Software"!

Perfect. Thank you for explaining that.

Now I just need to figure out what to back up.

By the way, I'm searching the ketron site from above, and I don't see any explanation on what the changes are this new OS does?

It seems that I cannot copy a link, so I try to explain it:
www.ketron.it -> Language English -> Software -> SD1 (a new small windows opens) -> scroll to the bottom in this window -> select "New Software Info".

This provides you a description of all releases.

My SD1 has 4.0a installed. I try to install 4.0c and it locks up. Is it necessary to first install 4.0b or is it possible to install 4.0c over 4.0a?
Thanks,
DonM

Don, I'm maybe totaly out on the fields here, but I seem
to remember looking into the website that there are two
different updatefiles, one for SD1 and one for SD1+.
Just striked my mind if there could be a mixup in files
downloaded?

Don,

There are 3 versions of 4.0c for the SD1. On the Ketron download page, if you scroll down a little bit to the 4.0b release, you will see a better description of the 3 different versions.

(1) SD1ORG_40C.exe
(2) SD1STN_40C.exe
(3) SD1PLS_40C.exe

Assuming you have 4.0a installed along with the 4.0 new sounds. Then you should download file number (2), SD1STN_40C.exe. Once the file is downloaded, run it (SD1STN_40C.exe) on your PC and unzip the content onto a formatted floppy disk. Take the floppy disk and insert it into your floppy drive in the SD1. Turn on the SD1 while holding down F6. It should load all the files and update your SD1.

If this still fails, you might need to load 4.0a again. Download all 12 files and follow the 4.0a instruction on the website.

Henry

Thanks for the help. I've been so busy that I haven't taken time to try again yet, but I will soon.
