Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Earthquake and Tsunami victims in Japan and Asia. Such a terrible tragedy. Our prayers also that the Tsunami misses the U.S. West Coast.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all who are suffering from that devastating 8.9 quake, the biggest in Japan's history. Having experinced first hand the frightening 7.4 one that hit here in 1989, I can't imagine what a 8.9 one would be like endure.

Here on the US West Coast (San Francisco Bay Area, we've received an official warning that a small tsunami wave is due to hit our shore in about 1/2 hour.

I watched this live last night in horror. My prayers go out to all over there.

BTW, I could not believe the glibness of the CNN female announcer as we watched live footage of fleeing cars being swept away. What kind of people ARE they in cable news? Whatever happened to "oh, the humanity!"?

I was disgusted.

Very very sad and a major major tragedy. I also agree that compassion is definitely absent in a lot of the reporting we are seeing.

I can't imagine the pain of the Japanese right now................puts life in perspective. I agree the media are more concerned about ratings than they are with humanity.

The Don Henley song Dirty Laundry says it all, I guess. My thoughts and prayers go to the Japanese people in this horrendous situation.

The Sendai quake was the biggest on record for that region and the fifth largest ever in recorded history. What a mindboggling disaster of epic proportion and has been stated by experts as being hundreds of times more devastating than the recent Haiti earthquake, as far as property damage and sheer destruction are concerned.

Yamaha and Roland Japan are located about 350 miles to the southwest and have probably been left pretty much unscathed from this disaster, albeit, I have no way to determine that for certain unless someone from Roland or Yamaha were to chime in. Fat chance most likely. On the other hand, Korg is located in Toyko which is only 150 miles from the epicenter and they may have been severely affected by this quake. Again, no way of knowing for sure unless a representative from Korg were to chime in.

If you'd like to help out financially you can do so through the American Red Cross or some other reputable charity. Here's the American Red Cross website: American Red Cross

All the best,
Mike

230,000+ dead in Haiti... I guess most of them would trade that for property damage any day. And if Haiti's property were actually WORTH anything on the world market, Japan's problems might seem more to scale, as well.

Thing I'm most worried for the Japanese is those nuclear reactors... You can rebuild a town, but not if the ground is glowing!

Diki ... I think it comes down to something that I have talked about quite a bit on this forum : the lack of RESPECT for anyONE or anyTHING ...
I turned on NBC tonight ... I didn't recognize the commentators - one female, one male, but he pointed to a spot on their monitors showing the flooding and he said "watch this - he gets hit right here" ... and she made some off hand remark ... I turned off the tv ...

True, and in addition, because Japan has so heavily relied on nuclear power, their need now for oil will surge, meaning even more world competition for foreign oil of which will certainly drive oil prices even higher for everyone. Will this also bring back the moratorium on building nuclear plants?

124, your "Dirty Laundry" comment is, sadly, "dead on" today.

How sad!
