Lowest price found today here in the San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay), CA,

Regular: $3.89
Mid Grade: $4.01
Premium: $4.11
Diesel: $4.18

My car runs on Diesel,
but I can't understand why it costs even more than gas, especially considering it's simply 'unrefined' fuel. confused1

If gas & fuel prices contine to rise sharply, will you gigging musicians here be raising your prices, or eat the difference?

We pay around $1.50 a litre (thats about $6 a gallon).

By the way Scott, reason for higher diesel pricing has nothing to do with production costs. It is all to do with the almost insatiable demand from India and China for diesel fuel.

Essentially the fuel companies are gouging the rest of us.

The pricing disparity is out here as well.

It's $3.60 a gallon around town ("Redneck Riviera") - FL panhandle. Sadly, at least one gas station at the Orlando airport (fillups for rentals from the Disney World crowd) is at $5.49 a gallon!!! Gouging! OUCH!

In Massachusetts $3.549 per gallon and a jar of Vaseline so it doesn't hurt so much. OUCH it still hurts!! surprised That price is at BJ's Wholesale club, it's at least 7 more cents per gallon at Mobil and Shell.

I will say late last week in conjunction with rewards points you receive for shopping at Stop and Shop a regional grocery chain here in the northeast I paid $2.89 per gallon and the only reason for that I had over 700 points. Every 100 points equals 10 cents per gallon savings. The posted price was $3.59 per gallon. Only problem is now we have to start all over accumulating points. 1 point for every dollar spent.

I just tanked up and I paid $3.69.9 per gal. for 91 octane.

I use Sunoco , and have used the same station and the same gas since 1990 ! smile

I guess no matter what the price gets to be I`ll still use the same.

Our friends in the UK have been paying 5 or 6 + per gal for years , so I guess we are lucky.

What I hate is the rising cost of food , that is getting way out of hand. __IMO !
It would not be so bad , but I`ll go shopping one day and find fresh food , then the next time I go I`ll find the exact same item replaced with a different expiration date. ( ie: X_food exp 13-1-1 now that is gone and replaced with exp. 12-8-1 )

If I have to pay top price for food I want the freshest they have.

For some reason that really ticks me off frown

On a lighter note , we ( us in the US ) are doing better than our poor friends in Japan , so lets all wish them well.

Later ,

Gary

Hi Ian,

$1.11 per litre here in oil-rich Alberta.

Scott: I don't get why diesel is more expensive, it always used to be that diesel was less than gas. More diesel cars on the road these days, I guess.

I'm kind of concerned about the mechanic at the corner garage...he told my buddy he couldn't fix his brakes...so he made his horn louder!

One observation I make all the time out here, is that folks bitch about paying $1.50 a litre for petrol, yet have NO problems paying $3.50 a litre for water!!

Even though we have quite decent "on tap" supplies !!!

Scott,

Your having a go ain't you, this is a wind up, in UK derv and pertol is £5.70 per gallon, that's $9.12 a gallons US, what's your problem over there, you need to stop driving and stop building gas guzzlers. 50 mph speed limit is a joke in the USA may cause your to have more accidents. Come let's have a real conference now, you need to start pulling spark plug leads off your Hummers or stop driving with the parking brakes on.

Oh Ha !

Regards

Tony

What I find interesting is that when I was a kid serving in the U.S. Navy gasoline in the U.K. was selling for about $5 a gallon. That was in 1958. Nearly all of the price was a ridiculous tax imposed on fuel. At the the time, gasoline in the U.S. sold for about .25 cents per gallon, mainly because taxes were very low on fuel. Heating oil sold for less than 8 cents per gallon, again because there were essentially no taxes imposed. Leap forward to 2011, gasoline in the U.K. has nearly doubled in just over a half-century, an increase of nearly 90-percent. In contrast, the price of gasoline in the U.S. has gone up 1,600-percent during the same period. And, the cost of home heating fuel has skyrocketed by more than 2,000-percent.

In the U.S. you need a car to go the grocery store, while most of the places I visited in the U.K. had grocery stores withing a short walk of nearly every home. My children never walked to school--they took the school bus. The closest elementary (primary) school was 6 miles from my home. The closest high school is 10 miles away. The bus stop where the school bus picked them up is a mile from my front door, which was fine on a warm, dry day. When it's cold and pouring rain, that's not a fun walk.

I just saw a startling statistic about the comparison of wilderness areas of the U.S. to those in Africa--the U.S. has far more open space than Africa. That one blew my mind. Consequently, in order to go anywhere in U.S., even when you live in a major city, you need a car to get there--especially when you get old. Sure, you could bicycle your way to the grocery store, pick up a gallon of milk, some canned goods and a loaf of bread, and with luck, if you left right after breakfast you may even get home before supper-time. Keep in mind, though, in rural America there are very few roads that have a bike path or sufficiently wide shoulder to ride upon. Consequently, you have to share the road with trucks, buses, cars and all of them seem to be in some sort of hurry to get somewhere important.

When gasoline prices skyrocket, the cost of everything quickly follows suit. Food, clothing, everything takes a hit. Then, some idiot in government thinks they should jack up our taxes on everything because the cost of running the government has increased, which they attribute to the rising cost of fuel. It's a Catch 22 situation that, unfortunately for the general public, will continue until long after we are all dead and buried.

Every time fuel prices rise I begin getting stupid emails claiming that if you want to see the price of gasoline fall, just do not purchase gasoline from the largest oil company--Exxon/Mobil. What a joke. Even if you boycotted every Exxon/Mobile gas station in the nation it would have little or no effect on their overall sales. All oil companies sell to each other. The gasoline you pump into your car may have be coming out of a Texaco pump, but what is in their underground tanks came from a bulk plant that buys from everyone. One day it may come from Sun Oil Company, the next day it may be from Texaco, Exxon/Mobil, Shell, you name it.

Damned I'm glad I bought a sailboat, wink

Gary cool
