I received two SD1plus keybaords today and I spoke with Dan O at his store on the East Coast. Dan and I spoke about how the new voices must first be loaded into the keyboard after power own. Only then do you notice the difference in the voices. Ketron has designed the keybaord so that the first sound in the first Catogory in the Program bank utilized two new sampled voices. The first voice is in location number one of the four possible layers in a program and panned hard left. The second voice is in location 2 of the program and panned hard right. After loading, the difference in this piano over the stock piano is stunning. Although I love the stock grand piano, this Grand Piano 100 is a very bold yet can be played very mellow piano sample. If you would like, you can have the sound be loaded automatically each time you turn the keyboard on by activating the auto load feature found in all X1 and SD keyboards.
The one problem we both noticed, which I believe can be easily fixed, is that after selecting the program called grand piano, even if you haven't loading anything in but the default, which is the same piano as the stock Rom Grand Piano, and if you switch to any other Program banks sound, when returning to the grand piano ( and only the grand piano) you will notice some of the sound you just changed from coming through the Grand Piano program. If I go to any other programs in the SD1plus, this does not happen. I talked with AJ tonight and he doesn't have his SD1plus yet, but we will talk more tommorow and see if we can easily fix this or if it needs a modification he will need to handle. My own observation is that upon looking at the program edit page, I can see 4 sounds. 1 says Grand Piano, 2 says Empty sound but still has a voice location number and if I turn this sound off, the piano sound defintely changes, 3 say sub and 4 says off. I think the name in sound 2 which doesn't say piano or the sound in 3 three which says sub(AJ says this should be off), might be the simple reason why this extra sound is being heard when returning to the GrandPiano program. If however, you choose any other sound in the Piano Program Catagory before returning to the Grand Piano patch, then the Grand Piano sounds perfect again. I don't think this is a software glitch but rather the way the program was saved by the factory. More on this tomorrow.
It was nice talking to Dan O over the phone. He's your good connection on the East Coast and I am your West Coast connection.
