Yes fran, you can save as default your favourite from each family group, but there are no buttons for this, you need to use the dial.

Hey Deane,
It sounds like you are as keen as me to get going with it! However, a word on sanity if I may. This is a module, and one of the major benefits I see is that you don't kave to change your whole set over to work on this. You already have good gear (I'd imagine. I actually don't know what you have!) with your gig set ready to go, so introduce the BK7m into your gigs slowly. You don't need to rush it.
There were a lot of comments earlier form others about changing their set to play on the BK7m, how it was difficult, and how it didn't sounds as good.
Personnaly I think slightly differently. I like the instrument to inspire new songs from me... ones that I didn't play before. I have been working on loads of these since I got the unit. I am happy to transfer some of my songs, but I really want to experiment with this, and I am happy with the ideas I am coming up with - though they all need work still. The best thing about something new is the something new or different it offers. My opinion I know... hopefully not too controvertial!

I am not a fan of one touch settings.. Likewise! It would be like letting someone else drive you around in your brand new sports car! I prefer to make my own settings, and tweak things a bit. I'm the driver!

Oh by the way, the JM5 has the same sound chip at it's heart as the BK-7m.

Truth is, Deane's idea of assigning 1 voice to each of 8 buttons on the A800 is a good one, for this reason. Most people don't use more than 8 RH voices during the course of a night in LIVE GIGING. I only play organ on gigs and I normally only use about 4 voices + bass, 2 on upper, 2 on right-split lower, bass on left-split lower (duplicated on pedals). If I were live-gigging an arranger, I'm sure I'd probably only use piano, organ, guitar, and sax or flute, for RH voices; maybe an occassional brass stab if playing in a band. Personally, I think a performance list is the way to go (with custom performances with pre-assigned voices, and a one-touch system for your controller to call them up. This seems like the easiest route to me. I haven't thought this all the way through 'cause my wife is calling me to watch TV. Sweentech1, can you follow through on this approach . chas

Yes Chas... you can also set the buttons to call up specific performances for you with the same parameters. There is a formula for working out the numbers this time though...
CCOO (Bank MSB) is fixed and is always 122 CC32 (Bank LSB) operates in a range from 0-7 PC operates in a range from 1-128
you calculate the CC32 (Bank LSB) number by (Performance memory number) minus 1, divided by 128
you calculate the program change number by taking the performance memory number minus (CC32 value multiplied by 128)
so for example: if we wished to recall performance number 45 your numbers would be:
CC00 = 122 CC32 = (45-1)/128=0 Keep to whole numbers and discard any remainder PC = 45-(0x128)45
Does this make sense?
It's all in the manual.. page 90.
