I have a couple of gigs in Chicago during June and need to rent a Tyros 4. If anyone has one, or knows of anyone who has one, please call me at 347-439-8493 or drop me a line at cmilecki at yahoo dot com. I can pay $500.

I must know asap,

Thanks,
Chony

I sent you a subsequent message. The long and short: My buddy cannot lend his T4. He's a pro, and he uses it every day, just like Chony.

Good luck!

Buy one on line, use it for your job and return it. You may have to pay a restocking fee, but surely not $500.
Then later somebody else will get a good deal on B stock!

I don't recommend doing that. eek
I mean just how much would it actually cost for Chony to simply check his Tyros 4 (in an ATA flight case) as airline baggage? I would expect far less than $500. Another option would be to pre-ship it to Chicago via FedEx Air. I would expect that rate to be even less still.

I would never ship an expensive instrument in a case that costs less than $300 or $400 - never saw one yet that was roadworthy for my level of care for less. Even so ... the airfare is probably steep too.

That said Dave, what would 'you' recommend Chony do in this situation then? confused1

IMO the safest honest affordable way would be for Chony to ship his Tyros 4 in the original Tyros 4 box, including the original packing material or equivalent. Even with insurance, it's got to be a lot less than $500. I wouldn't feel in good conscience to purchase one online or at a local music store, to simply use it for the weekend and return it. Not only do I find that over the edge of shady, but shipping cost and damage risk is the same as if you'd simply shipped the one unit you already own. And of course, I'm certain, even with the restocking fee charge, both resident SZ keyboard dealers Frank Ventresca & George Kaye wouldn't be pleased if one of their customers pulled that stunt. shocked JMO.

Well said Scott...I agree wholeheartedly.

Maybe some wouldn't find it unethical to buy, use and return/refund, but I know I would, and I know my local dealer would be less than pleased if someone did things that way. It just would be very unprofessional, in my opinion.

Part of doing business nationally or abroad....let the customer absorb all shipping costs, liabilities, and damages in the contract plus travel, insurance, and the gig fee.
