I have a couple of gigs in Chicago during June and need to rent a Tyros 4. If anyone has one, or knows of anyone who has one, please call me at 347-439-8493 or drop me a line at cmilecki at yahoo dot com. I can pay $500.

I must know asap,

Thanks,
Chony

I sent you a subsequent message. The long and short: My buddy cannot lend his T4. He's a pro, and he uses it every day, just like Chony.

Good luck!

Buy one on line, use it for your job and return it. You may have to pay a restocking fee, but surely not $500.
Then later somebody else will get a good deal on B stock!

I don't recommend doing that. eek
I mean just how much would it actually cost for Chony to simply check his Tyros 4 (in an ATA flight case) as airline baggage? I would expect far less than $500. Another option would be to pre-ship it to Chicago via FedEx Air. I would expect that rate to be even less still.

I would never ship an expensive instrument in a case that costs less than $300 or $400 - never saw one yet that was roadworthy for my level of care for less. Even so ... the airfare is probably steep too.

That said Dave, what would 'you' recommend Chony do in this situation then? confused1

IMO the safest honest affordable way would be for Chony to ship his Tyros 4 in the original Tyros 4 box, including the original packing material or equivalent. Even with insurance, it's got to be a lot less than $500. I wouldn't feel in good conscience to purchase one online or at a local music store, to simply use it for the weekend and return it. Not only do I find that over the edge of shady, but shipping cost and damage risk is the same as if you'd simply shipped the one unit you already own. And of course, I'm certain, even with the restocking fee charge, both resident SZ keyboard dealers Frank Ventresca & George Kaye wouldn't be pleased if one of their customers pulled that stunt. shocked JMO.

Well said Scott...I agree wholeheartedly.

Maybe some wouldn't find it unethical to buy, use and return/refund, but I know I would, and I know my local dealer would be less than pleased if someone did things that way. It just would be very unprofessional, in my opinion.

Part of doing business nationally or abroad....let the customer absorb all shipping costs, liabilities, and damages in the contract plus travel, insurance, and the gig fee.

Exactly, Donny! That's the way a professional would handle it. Well said.

Right you are, Don...not only is it a tad unethical, but if the music store owner ever found out what had transpired, I can't imagine the relationship becoming anything but completely sour from then on.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your advice, but I'm playing there once a week for a month and in between I have gigs in New York, so shipping it won't help.

I don't want to do the whole buy and return thing understandably...

So if anyone knows of a T4 in Chicago... let me know!

Offer is still open. I specifically need it currently for June 5 and June 13 (I also need it for June 19, 20 and 27). I can pay $150 for each use if it is delivered (otherwise $100). I'd need need it each time from about 5pm till 12. Let me know!

Chony,

I am not certain what this is all about, there are no shops that hire T4s, that is obvious, it’s a brand new product on the market, Avis don't do them, anyone who has got one loves it like a fancy women and would not part or share with you. A T4 is £4000.00 to buy, you can stick it under your arm and disappear into the night, I don’t know what KB you have now or why you can’t take it with you, or buy one and leave it there until you finished the gigs, it would be nice to bring home with you. I know this, you wouldn’t get anyone in the UK to let you borrow you over the internet , may be if they lived about a mile from the gig and they could site with you all night.
You got all sorts of people advising you, even DonM gone off on this one, my advice would be get your hand in your pocket or give the gig to someone nearer to, BTW why the hell as it got to be a T4. Loaning a T4 isn’t going to happen unless, someone’s completely daft! Try asking to borrow a T1 think you might struggle at that too.

If I don't find one, I'll just fly in with mine. It will cost about the same in overweight and oversize fees, minus the shlep and the worry that it may not arrive on time.

Tony, I've been an active member here since 2004 and have actually rented or borrowed T3s and T4s many times in other cities from people on this forum without incident...
