Here's a list (in alphabetical order) of the 16 most basic human desires, of which may point to some answers about why we relate to each other on Synthzone the way we do.
I can easily see more than a few of these things acted out in threads. We're human after all: cool

the ones in bold most observed on this forum.

01. Acceptance: the need for approval
02: Curiosity: the need to learn
03: Eating: the need for food
04: Family: the need to raise children
05: Honor: need to be loyal to the trad values of one's social group
06: Idealism: the need for social justice
07: Independence: the need for individuality
08: Order: the need for organized, stable, predictable environments
09: Physical activity: the need for exercise
10: Power: the need for influence of will
11: Romance: the need for sex
12: Saving: the need to collect (music gear grin )
13: Social contact: the need for friends (peer relationships)
14: Status: the need for social standing/importance
15: Tranquility: the need to be safe
16: Vengeance: the need to strike back/to win

Very well said, Scott...and very accurate, I might add.

I learn something here every day...sometimes it's about gear, sometimes about music, and many times, about human nature (especially my own).

There is one missing ; especially when you extrapolate to the internet:

Anonymity - the ability to de-humanize communication and social interaction.

Beer?!

Nah, these are simply the findings of a Harvard University study
to identify the most basic 'human needs' and perhaps help us undertand why we behave the way we do to satisfy them, and of which

makes us TicK!:

I totally agree Al, that is a big one. People act completely differently online then they would when communicating face to face. They don't have to be worried about someone hitting them when they are online duel

And the reason for that is that this forum is for ALL brands and models of arranger keyboards. Occasionally I wonder whether I should just close the General Arranger Forum and just leave the brand specific forums running. There would be a lot less confrontations then. On the other hand it seems that a lot of people like having an open forum where they can discuss and compare all arrangers.

Very true Nigel. I have noticed over the years, the members who have met each other at Jams or otherwise are so much more cordial to each other in their posts. I bet if everyone met each other here at least 1 time, the atmosphere would be totally different.

What bothers me is even though we don't know each other very well, most of us have been coming here for 10 years or more and we still verbally mistreat and disrespect one another.

What a shame.

Yep, sad to say, some of the very long term members tended to be the amongst the most verbally abusive, and disrespectful.

You and I have discussed this at other times.

The deliberate hijacking of posts, the baiting, the real petty stuff was usually done by those who should know better, and were probably on the forum ever since it's inception. A lot of the newcomers wouldn't stay for long. Can't say I blame them.

It appears to be much more civil now, and I notice a few new names in the threads, and I hope they stay around and continue to contribute to this really nice, and very interesting forum.

And yes, Al, if we were to all meet in the same room, person to person, there would be a lot less of these shenanigans.

Ian

Hello everyone....

Just my 2 cents....I will add that could be also a big sense of insecurity, and the need to be acknowledge or to be notice, probably is what they became bullies, using the "passive-aggressive" rhetoric, and/or not the least to consider....mental illness.

For what I have seen....past behavior is the best way to predict future behavior on those individuals, is not the first time that they have done it.
I will say that when (BS) was happening, I did not post on the forum as many of people I know did the same, now that is peaceful, you will see more of"us".

But, we are Happy now.!!!! rocker

I am so glad to see you and several others back to posting on this forum. There are even a few new names I do not recognize.

Because of the great positive post, on another thread, by our buddy, Kla4 (Roel DeJonge), and his uploading of a really cool medley of tunes that showcased the Tyros4's great styles and sounds (and his fine talent), I even posted a tune myself...and I haven't done that in a very long time.

This place is to share our friendship, and to have fun, and I hope to see more sharing of our music, and the knowledge we have learned as players...those are things we all have in common.

Thanks for a very well expressed post, mdorantes.

Ian
