I have always loved this tune. I hope you enjoy our humble attempt. This is a LONG one, I don't know how to do it any other way:)

Good one Paul...this one obviously features the sax player.

The recording quality is better as well, with much improved dynamics.

Did you record the accompaniment track first, using a style, and then you two played over it?

Very nice piano playing too...tasty with no overplaying...very tidy.

Great tune, well done. Some interesting recordings out there for a tune first recorded 30 years ago or so.

The sax players name is Jason Davis. Yeah, he's good... Look him up on the internet. He has a big band here in Dallas called "Stage Band South" Also he recently released a CD of free jazz.

Thanks for listening Ian!

Yes, I recorded first the accompaniment using the Tyros 2 "16th Beat" Then we overdubed the sax and GEM digital piano at the same time. We didn't quite follow the form right, but oh well... Then I overdubed acoustic congas, timbales/cowbell, claves, wind chimes and cymbal rolls.

Funny, Jason said he never played Europa. He can read well but I didn't have a chart so I taught him the melody by ear, then he just ran with it!

Thanks Russ. yeah there so many versions of Europa. My wife wants to write some Spanish lyrics to it maybe do it as a bolero and latter a double time salsa feel.

It worked great, Paul, and, of course, not following the form is the idea of the "arranger"...you make the music your own, and put your own stamp on it.

I listened to it several times...very impressive, and a fine recording.

Great tune, really nice recording. The sax player reminds me of Gato Barbieri. Thanks for the post.

Paul,

I'm impressed with both the song and that you actually posted a file on your own.
What's next your own profile avatar? smirk
Good job buddy, but does this mean I'm fired?

Seriously, a great recording, with the sax player highlighting an overall fine performance. I agree with Ian, the dynamics were nice on this one.

Hi Paul, I too enjoyed your latest recording. clap
Sound & recording quality are vastly improved.
You and Jason make a great duo instrumental act. cool

Though it will require a uniquely arranger piano playing style,
It would be cool to hear something recorded by you on your Tyros 2
performed & recorded entirely live in auto accompaniment mode now, along with Jason on Sax. smile

LOL- Larry! Slowly but surely I'm getting the hand of this inter-web thingy! But don't worry, you're not fired. I'm sure I'll need your help again...

Scott- I'll try to take you up on suggestion and record something in "real time" but my left hand has a mind of it's own... Especially when improvising.

Telmo- Obrigado meu amigo

Lovely recording and very nicely played. Who wrote that song? It bears a strong resemblance/feel to Leonard Cohen's 'Parisian Walkways.' Also the late Gary Moore's 'Still Got The Blues.'

Thank you 123. I believe keyboardist Tom Coster wrote it. I play it with "Autumn Leaves" changes (A section) Carlos Santana and latter Gato Barberi had hits with it. It is an instrumental that people seem to enjoy- young and old.

Paul - OUTSTANDING work! Of course the first time I heard your recording of this I zoned right in on the horn man (Jason is an excellent player!) but I also couldn't help but notice the super keyboard work as well! Super job!

Great recording all around! And I also should mention that I consider myself very lucky to have heard Paul's entire CD - all done with commendable energy and taste! El Grupo Cache rocks!

Thanks for posting and keep up the great work Paul! ENCORE!!!

Hi Randy- thank you for your kind words. Yes Jason is a great horn player. I was just listening to some sax soli music he recorded. It would be right up your alley- all sax- alto, tenor, and bari. He overdubed all the parts. No band, just sax!

I can't wait to hear your Christmas CD. Holiday tunes are some of my favorites. Even in June!
