I have always loved this tune. I hope you enjoy our humble attempt. This is a LONG one, I don't know how to do it any other way:)

Good one Paul...this one obviously features the sax player.

The recording quality is better as well, with much improved dynamics.

Did you record the accompaniment track first, using a style, and then you two played over it?

Very nice piano playing too...tasty with no overplaying...very tidy.

Great tune, well done. Some interesting recordings out there for a tune first recorded 30 years ago or so.

The sax players name is Jason Davis. Yeah, he's good... Look him up on the internet. He has a big band here in Dallas called "Stage Band South" Also he recently released a CD of free jazz.

Thanks for listening Ian!

Yes, I recorded first the accompaniment using the Tyros 2 "16th Beat" Then we overdubed the sax and GEM digital piano at the same time. We didn't quite follow the form right, but oh well... Then I overdubed acoustic congas, timbales/cowbell, claves, wind chimes and cymbal rolls.

Funny, Jason said he never played Europa. He can read well but I didn't have a chart so I taught him the melody by ear, then he just ran with it!

Thanks Russ. yeah there so many versions of Europa. My wife wants to write some Spanish lyrics to it maybe do it as a bolero and latter a double time salsa feel.

It worked great, Paul, and, of course, not following the form is the idea of the "arranger"...you make the music your own, and put your own stamp on it.

I listened to it several times...very impressive, and a fine recording.

Great tune, really nice recording. The sax player reminds me of Gato Barbieri. Thanks for the post.
