Hi Howard,

I've sent you the version 1.4 and 1.6, you do not need the version 1.3 because it is integrated in version 1.4.
But this version can be downloaded 1.4 and 1.6 to the KN 7000, you must unzip the files on the disk, as I described it to you.

If you do not, the update does not work!!!!!

If you want to download both versions still extra, here's the link:

I would be interested too, as our KN7000 also shows version 1.3

I seem to remember someone telling me not to bother, as there was a likelihood of crashing the whole OS, requiring professional help to restore, and what there was in 1.4 and 1.6 was not really of much use anyway.

If these upgrades are of use, could someone describe clearly the steps to install them, as I would hate to mess up everything !!

Just keep on keeping on, regards,

John

My take on the subject - "If it ain't broke - don't fix it!!"
If the update goes wrong, you'll end up with a BRICK...... as a few people have discovered frown frown

Both my KN7000s still have Version 1.3 and I have no problems. As far as I am aware, the updates only correct minor problems such as errors in the German 'Help' text, incorrect reporting on-screen of the percentage usage of the SD Card and possible problems if you have Expansion Cards fitted. In the past, I had all 4 expansion cards installed (now removed and sold) and I encountered no problems whatsoever.

Hi,

Bill's answer is correct.
But why not use the last official version of Technics?

I am moderator of the Swiss Technics forum.

http://www.my-tastenworld.ch/phpBB3/index.php

I know of no KN 7000 player who has not charged the version 1.6.
Many of us also have the plugin.

http://www.keysoftservice.ch/kn7000/index-e.htm

With version 1.3, task always problems that were corrected in version 1.6.

But he who has no problems with the kN 7000, does not have to upload the version 1.6.

To rectify! If an update is not being played correctly, does the KN 7000 - no - too bad! Simply upload the version again.

I like Bill’s answer but before I leave the subject I am still not sure of what the gain would be. It is difficult to judge and make a decision without having the knowledge.

Going back to Bill’s statement -- My Kn7000 has been working flawlessly so I think I will pass.

Now if there was an upgrade for my dog’s behavior then I would be very interested. Please take that lightly I have a tiny 15 pound dog that loves me -- I think he has already received the upgrade. (Smile)

My KN7000 has version 1.3 and when the later updates came out, I was also advised not to bother as it could cause unnecessary problems. As Bill says "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Just as a matter of interest - my Technics PR900 Piano was purchased in November 1996 and
the KN7000 was purchased in November 2002. Both have given me (and others) hours of pleasure with no problems at all and both are still in 'pristine' condition.

I hope Im not speaking too soon, but I do wonder whether today's instruments will last that long? Personally, I very much doubt it.

Hi Thanks for all your reply
With my hard head I download the version 1.4 to a floppy disk and run it to my KN7000 and the download was successfull.
After I check the version on the KN7000 and still was the version 1.0
So after I done a technical test for the kn7000 and everything was OK
That means that my keyboard dont need an upgrade. Bill and Roger M.. told me so.
Thanks again

I think this also applied to other makes too. I can only relate to Yamaha, as until recently, have always been a 'Yamaha Nut'. For those familiar with Yamaha Models - look back, for example, at the PSR 9000 Pro .... Without doubt, the finest keyboard Yamaha ever made - OK it was 56 pounds, but was built like a brick Toilet! Still valued in the second hand market, and - like the Technics KN7000, treasured by those who own one. The PSR 2000, and 2100 of the same era were good solid instruments too.

I think about 2002 saw the end of well engineered and solid machines. I recently purchased a KN2600 (made in 2004), and what a heap of junk compared to the KN7000 - rotten key action, flimsy plastic case, and just a general feeling of 'Casio'. It has now left these shores to be used in the Phillipines! - Good riddance !!

Perhaps I was spoiled by having a Yamaha FX20 organ for 23 years (yes - I kept it and played it professionally all over the world without it missing a beat, for 23 years, and that weighed a quarter of a ton (525 lbs). I then moved to the Yamaha 9000 Pro, Upgraded (supposedly!) to a couple of flimsy plasticy Tyros's - and am now back with another solid - back to pre-2002 design - KN7000 !!

As the old adage goes .... 'They don't make things like that, these days !'

Just my take on the subject - I am sure many will disagree.

Kind regards,

John

I've never changed my version from the original when I bought it and I don't intend to either - it works fine as it is...

Just to add to this thread, I had version 1.3 which was installed by the supplier on my KN7000. I had no real problems in normal use, but one day decided to add backing tracks from some commercial backing track CD's to a SD card. The KN7000 would only accept one or two CD's worth of files to the SD card without producing an error message.

I contacted Panasonic in the UK, only about a year ago, and they sent me version 1.6 on floppy discs free of charge, which cured this MP3 error problem.

So I don't think it just fixes some German text problems.
