OUCH!

You're right...it's REALLY FUNNY (the non-auto-tuned version).

Kind of think that no one is dumb enough to allow something that bad to be broadcast if it were for real.

I don't think it's funny at all. I think it's sad to think that maybe other radio artists are nothing more than audio photoshop singers too. Sure, the kid is cute, but she'll never be a singer, so why polish up that turd and try to sell her as one? This is what's wrong with show biz. To quote a line from one the the songs in "Miss Saigon" ( just saw it again this week - mmmmm )
"You can sell s**t and get thanx ... that's what I learned from the yanks". Maybe she can dance, maybe she is charming to talk to, maybe she has oodles of other talents, but no one should ever, ever pay to hear her sing. It shouldn't even be allowed.

Hi Tony,

I think it is...more than you know. And I totally agree with UD. Have you ever heard a live vocal performance of Taylor Swift - the hottest young female country singer in the USA?

She is dreadfully off key in public, but her records are spot on vocally. Her fans don't give a hoot because they can all relate to her lyrics and her cute 16-something attitude. But musical purists roll their eyes and shake their heads at this stuff.

Grrrrr!

Al,

It’s like selling refrigerators to Eskimos.

UD, love that phrase "audio photoshop". Beautifully put. I think people can be taught to sing, but it's not difficult to tell the taught from the naturals. You either got it or you don't.

You're right, Al. I was shocked at how horrible Taylor was live.

That says some pretty sad things about talent ans success today.

I'm not excusing his rudeness, but maybe Kanye West was on to something at that Grammy awards show. I mean, whatever kind of music you like, listen to Beyonce live and compare the two.

How exactly is the auto-tune done for professional studios?
Does it work live? Or is it only after the performance is initially recorded?
Thanks,
I really want to know what's available out there.

1. I despise Auto-Tune
2. The first out-of-tune version of Miss Black was obviously fake
3. At least she is fully clothed (although given a little time I'm sure some sleaze video producer will get her up to speed on what really sells todays music) "sad"
4. The Taylor Swift video could very well be faked; there are times when she is not directly on the mic but the timbre of her voice does not change. I guess she could be lip syncing, but would they really use that audio track?
5. What was that song"?" Video Killed the Radio Star. Sort of true. But then again, songs being performed in old movies of Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, etc. were the music videos of the time. The difference is those folks had real talent and didn't have technology to hide behind.

I am not a fan of lip syncing either, but when you are about to be doused with water, I wouldn't want to be holding a mic, so I guess for production value in that instance, it was warranted. She's a hard worker - writes her own material, plays and sings OK - I think in the interest of a dynamic visual presentation, using a dead mic for the last part of the song was OK. Personally, I think the quick change of outfits was more impressive than the water, but hey ... I grew up during the Flashdance era. Water tricks are old news~ LOL

There are 3 modes you can choose from.
1: You can enter in the Key of the song and the scale and just sing live.
2: You can record the song and process it later.
3: You can enter in the notes your supposed to be singing into a Sequencer synced to the song, and no matter how bad you are you will hear your voice pitch perfect.

Works live, but it's not so forgiving in live situations. You must be able to sing. In live mode it will only correct your tuning by cents, not entire notes.

In the studio, you can be totally tone deaf and it will make you sound like a pop star.

Ask away, I use this technology all the time for clients.
