Here's a Tyros 4 vs Audya keyboard performance comparison of the song
"A Swinging Safari" composed by Bert Kaemfert.

Original
Performed by Bert Kaemfert (1962):

Performed by Manfred (Aug. 3, 2011)
on a Yamaha Tyros 4 & 3:

Performed by Snoopy (Aug. 4, 2011)
on a Ketron Audya 5:

Wow, to me, it's not even close. The Audya, by far. I can't stand the Tyros sound on this one.

Scott,

Totally subjective and nothing to do with the sound coming out of the speakers from each KB and going into your ears, all about which button were pressed on each keyboard before the guys started to play and how they played. Scott if you had been able to swap the sound tracks for each KB it would have been the same. If you are trying to get as near to the Bert Kaemfert sound as you possibly you can then forget it, you’re not going to do it, this just adds another dimension for the brain to handle, just two demos makes things easier for the brain to handle. Certainly what’s left of my brain?
If you don’t believe me think about this, if you could get 10 KBs all playing the same music, with the original Bert Kaemfert piece, then ask people to compare, then see, if anyone else comes back with a resounding yes Audya is better than T4 or vice versa, the brains will be even more confuse and it will tell you more about the people who are listening to the samples than the KB they are trying to judge.
It’s confusing with the three that you posted , to do it with 10 even if you could get the samples all playing the same music, it would be more than subjective. There would be something more than we could fully explain away what is going on here.

Tony

PS.... think about this one Scott, who and what is playing the original, are you sure it's Bert and his band, or is it a G70, PRS910, EL90, US1, I don't know and neither do you. What I can say without fear, it isn't Hammer on is SD2.

I have the 45 rpm single of Swingin' Safari and while it is similar to the original video, the 45 is a much tighter sound.

The Yamaha well!
Not its best showing

The Audya
Good effort, but like all styles they are just too repetitive, and lack the free flow of the original.

Also don’t forget that A Swingin Safari style was featured in this recent Korg PA3x demo, which starts at about 2.15

What does this prove?
There is no bad keyboard, and no top keyboard, just that some people can play better than others, which in the end is what makes the performance. (Not the keyboard)

To add another version, here is one on a Wersi, which starts at 3.25

My opinion

Bill

Bill,

I will go with that, you are right. Not even going to listen to the Wesri, don't want my brain to be mashed any further, now if you had posted it being played on a Wing I just might of have had a peek! However, what you posted with the Wersi isn't comparing apples with apples, the Wersi you added is about £15,000 to buy. Bill, hiring the real band if they are all still alive would be cheaper than buying the Wersi and perhaps not as temperamental.

Yes,

Eddie I agree with Bill, it's the player not the KB, my T4 is fantastic, I just can't play it like Peter Baartmans. Who knows one day, doubt it not enough time left!!

Wouldn't it be cool to find some of these comparion videos performed by the same keyboardist. I think that's really the only way to get a fair comparison.

With that being said, I really tried to focuss on the keyboard sound and style rather than the prrformance. The Audya sounded much better to me.
