A while back, I posted 10 minutes of guitar and vocals on UTube...no pre-planning...completely off the cuff. Used first available instrument...a Zoom H-2...a looper, instead of a mixer.

Now, the hits are approaching 700. I just listened to it for the first time in awhile, and, MAN ARE THERE A LOT OF CLINKERS!

Just goes to show you...you gotta do some pre-planning (more than I did), because this stuff never dies!

I have people coming up to me at gigs saying they saw the piece and asking for lessons (thank goodness for tone def people).

From now on, I'm going to actually listen and be a little more careful.

I often cringe when listening back to what I recorded. Or sometimes things sound better than I thought they did when I listen back. Most players are their own worst critics. I'm sure the stuff you posted swings hard Russ, and only you realize any precieved short comings.

Cap,

I'm very impressed. You play and sing very well. You should be proud not embarressed. What did you play first, guitar or keys? You also played my kind of music, I loved it. I almost got to Lexington to see my cousins and you this summer but had to go to Gallup NM to see my new grandson instead. Maybe next year.

Scott thanks for posting this link.

Take care,

Tom

Hey Russ... Nice Job!

The Guild is one cool guitar with nice action, and you played it well, and your singing was nice and mellow...all around relaxing, soothing sound.

Thanks...I enjoy that kind of stuff too.

I just thought SZeeee was keyboard and arranger forum not guitar forum, I suppose if we are short of topics thats OK, lots of post goes off topic, Scott's link appears to indicate this has been done over before.

Perhaps so, in a strict sense, but my take on it is a bit more forgiving.

Many of us have been around for years and, as such, are regarded as friends that have varied talents and interests. We should care about the whole person.

Don Mason had a scary accident and, thank God, no one was hurt. Did it strictly pertain to keyboards ? Perhaps not but we are all glad he posted.

I think Russ's point is totally valid whether it is playing music using keyboard, guitar or any other instrument. It is simply about making Youtube music clips. That is certainly a valid topic on this forum.

Besides .... despite Russ's self criticism I love the warmth of his performance. He makes that Guild guitar sing.

I sincerely was trying to make a point about posting ANYTHING...music, copy, art, even naming an individual in a posting on the Synthzone.

It can (and has) appeared on the internet. Once, several years ago I revealed some personal things about my father-in-law here, and that post surfaced the next time someone Googled his name. The information was about his personal health and history.

Thankfully, Nigel agreed to remove the post to take care of the problem.

I write for a Small Credit Union member newspaper, and when I get a byline, the publication comes up.

Last year, people in our office sent a financial contribution to a local Synagog in honor of the passing of the mother of a client. The donation was mentioned in a Synagog publication and that was converted to a PDF. A search of any of our names brought up the publication, our names, the amount of the donation, etc.

Tom, I actually started playing guitar professionally at age 11, but have been playing mostly keyboards for over 25 years. I keep a guitar on the bandstand on my single jobs and play a couple of tunes a set.

I do some guitar studio work (on-call-probably 10-12 projects a month) and have a guitar, bass and drums trio (me, son and grandson which works 6-8 jobs a month).

Tony, sorry if you disagreed with or didn't understand the purpose of my post. You obviously have the right to do that, and I can sort of see your point. Thanks to Scott for posting the link, but that was not expected.

Be well, and....

Hi Tony,
Please keep in mind that even with a video,
theoretically, the singing could have been lip synced shocked
and/or the keyboard played in mute mode & synced eek as well,
so whether the recording is sound alone or sound with video,
I still appreciate hearing member's recorded music,
and unless proven otherwise,
will take members at their word regarding their honesty about the integrity of their recordings. smile

Tony, I appreciate your input here. As a 9 year old, my dad was stationed in Swindon, and I got to appreciate the English countryside, people, quirky TV shows...enjoyed my time there, but wish I had been a little older, so I would have learned and appreciated more.

Thing is, I have an appreciation for your approach to things and your humor.

Plus, I'm a big fan of Ketron equipment (not of the distributor and rep, though), and am interested in your ownership and opinions on the Ketron unit you have.

I get you,and look forward to future contact, here, private emails...whatever.

Russ
