I agree with Al...Yamaha announced it in an appropriate manner, considering what was being released.

Thankfully, Yamaha has never been infected with Roland's habits...otherwise they'd be in the same boat which would be: No TOTL arrangers, and one mediocre arranger module, that has proved to be of very limited value to the keyboardist.

I was lucky enough to get a one gig flash expansion upgrade as a gift from a very dear friend, and I'm looking forward to trying these new voices.

The voices are pretty good, btw. Only $25.95 each!

Which is a ripoff to start with...

How about loyalty to your customers and giving them addons at normal prices.. $25.95 would be a good price for a software tool that lets Yamaha owners create their own SA voices from commercial sample formats...

But not $26 dollars for a simple sound... If the Groove-XR is done with its styles and its open archirecture allows people to add any free or relatively cheep sound source, the good days of Yamaha are finally over...

I feel bad for those who can't afford the very reasonable $25.95 for these excellent new sounds, but, you don't have to buy them...the Tyros4 already has terrific SA/SA2 on-board sounds in those genres.

So far, the Groove-XR appears to be a fairly decent instrument...considering it is from a very small company, with allegedly limited support, I hope it does well, and certainly it's nice to see another company in the TOTL arranger market besides those from Korg, Yamaha and Ketron.

Choice is a very good thing, especially since some companies, like Roland, are no longer able to offer a competitive arranger in that category.

Its not cant afford.... its not willing to spend their well earned coins on something ridiculously overpriced...

Keep in mind that Yamaha is not aiming at professional players that earn money with their instruments, but its aiming at home players....

Just look what aplle did for selling software with their competitive pricing in the IOS range of products...

If they would sell these sounds at 3.99 they would sell ten times as many... making more money in the end...

I suppose the idea is that if you can afford a Tyros4, you can certainly be able to spend a mere $25.95 each for some very high quality extra voices (which you only buy once). Today, $25.95 will hardly buy dinner for two, at even a modest restaurant, so, I guess it is all in how we perceive the value of what we get for our investment.

Of course the Tyros4 is intended for the "home player" market (it is the largest and most profitable), but those who buy Tyros instruments, in my humble but experienced opinion, are mostly advanced players, with a fair number of them being professionals (playing for money).

It is simple...the Tyros4 too rich and expensive or complex for your tastes? Don't buy one. Buy an S910 or it's equivalent.

Not everyone invests in a Lexus...some purchase Camry and Corolla. You are probably quite happy with your Camry or Corolla, so why be concerned about those of us who choose the Lexus with it's relatively higher priced options, but more extensive standard equipment?

The idea that these voices are "ridiculously overpriced" is simply YOUR opinion, and certainly not representative of the many Tyros owners that I deal with everyday.

I'm also guessing that you aren't, or will never be, a Tyros4 user/owner, which is, in my opinion, a good thing.

Enjoy what you play...I do.

I know people that used part of their livesavings to buy a T4, how do you think these prices feel to those people?

Anyway, if you think that $25 is not much money, then you are partly responsible for the current monetary crisis... people don't have any notion about monetary vallue anymore.

In today's world, $25 isn't much money...but, I can see your point; back in your day, when the earth was still cooling, it probably purchased a car, or perhaps a modest house.

After reading your replies, it is quite obvious, to even the most casual reader, your assessment that "people don't have any notion about monetary value anymore", applies far more to you than me.

I do know good value...that's why I bought a Tyros4. According to it's great sales success, I am one of many who felt the same way.

Whether you agree or disagree, matters very little to those of us who own one.

Please let me ask you when Roland, Korg, Ketron, or Casio have released brand new stunning samples and styles for their keyboards; free? Or even for a reasonable price for that matter? At least Yamaha is committed to provide the tools necessary to upgrade your own keyboard. Talk to the poor tortured Audya users who have been waiting for the AJAMSONIC sounds and styles for over a year. They are willing to pay anything for it.

You can go and buy Chicken System Translator ($149) to convert any format sound file you want into a usable sound for the Tyros 4, load it up, and have the Tyros 4 start up in under 30 seconds. I have done it; each subsequent sound/sample for free. I use Translator for my Motif and Kronos samples, but it works equally as well for the T4.

Your argument does not hold water....

kbrkr,

I think that you have provide a lot of wrong info with you post.

1- AJAMSONIC is not a Ketron product, then don't blame Ketron for the delay.
2- For $70.00 Ketron provided recently 47 new styles, 8 live guitar samples, 11 new sounds and drums sets.
3- Korg usually provide OS upgrades with new sounds and styles for FREE. That was the case with the PA2x/PA800 upgrade. Later Korg provide sets of 12 standard new styles and 32 Latin styles FREE.

Nothing wrong with the way Yamaha bring new styles and sounds to their arranger market. I wish others vendors will do the same and with the frecuency that Yamaha do it. But, please provide the true facts about the others.

Now thats a more reasonable price... $70 for all that stuff..

if it where yamaha's individuall items pricing plan it would have been 47 x $10 + 19 x $25 = $845 for the same number of sounds and styles...
