Gary,

Did you know that Windows7 has an XP compatibility mode.(http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows) I did this with Acoustica, an old program that was made for XP, and it works great on my 7 machine.
Did you try that?

BTW...I remember when XP came out, their was lots of frustration with compatibility when upgrading from '98. Time moves on, and your software that you paid for needs to catch up.

However if you're happy with XP... so be it. To Each His Own smile

Hi Gary

If you are using Win 7 Pro you can download virtual XP from Microsoft which runs inside Win 7, then unless the software really is old (You had trouble installing it on XP) you should find all your software will work. (I haven’t come across any that won’t yet)

If you are using Win 7 Home, and you have a legitimate copy of XP, then you can use VMPlayer (Details here ) to run it with Win 7 in a similar way to Virtual XP with Win 7 Pro.

Unless your Nero Burn does Blu-Ray then it has no relevance, as everything it can do, can be done natively with Windows 7.

Download Windows live essentials (The free replacement for OE 6) and you have additional features as well.

To transfer information from OE6

Accounts: Open the accounts menu and use the export option to save to USB

Emails: From the file menu choose Export, and save them to USB

Contacts: Open the contacts and from the file menu choose export, then save to USB

To transfer from USB to your new mail program, follow the above but choose Import instead of Export.

BTW if you have a separate external HDD or you can connect your computers together, then you can use the Easy Transfer Wizard in Win 7 to transfer any files over you want.

Hope this helps

Bill

Bill,

Some of the suggestions you posted I have already, unsuccessfully tried. Much of this, however, I discovered has something to do with the processor. The AMD E2 processor seems to have some issues, while the good ol' boys at Intel found workarounds.

Larry,

Some of the software is too old, and will not run, even in the compatibility mode. I guess my old school mentality "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't hold water with today's PCs and Windows7. wink

Gary cool

Gary, you guys have to stop buying low line stuff smile

The E series is AMD entry level processors...I am the other extreme..I want the best I can afford...I have tried the middle ground power pc's (laptops)...they just do not perform under any load...when you use VST's and stream samples, while using todays DAWs.....you better use the best...

Think back a couple years ..remember you were using dial up internet... smile..now isn't life a bit better wink

Fran,

I don't use VSTs, stream samples, etc... I just play the keyboard with the onboard features that I've tuned the way I want them to sound. As for the dial-up internet, I'm just about ready to go back to it. At my age I'm no longer in a hurry to do anything. That's why I bought a sailboat--ain't fast but is sure is comfortable.

Cheers,

Gary cool
