Just wondering what Christmas songs you are playing this season. I'd love to hear what styles your using and anything else you that you'd like to share about your holiday performances.

Paul,

This is probably the busiest time of year for most OMB entertainers. Those of us that have been doing this for a while usually perform a dozen or more, traditional Christmas songs during a typical one-hour performance. However, I tend to stray from the traditional styles for those traditional songs, just to add a little zest to the performance and keep things upbeat. You can download a number of styles that are named with the appropriate song titles by going to http://psrtutorial.com/sty/gigDisks/GD_gary.html Unzip the styles, out them on your USB drive and you're ready to go.

Have fun with them,

Gary cool

this may not help much, but most of the standard tunes, with appropriate style on the kb ... also, this year I've learned Darius Rucker's "Candy Cane Christmas" ...

Good song Tony. Try the Yamaha Christmas Swing style with a tempo of about 86 to 88, second variation--works great for this one.

Cheers,

the chords are here:
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_chords_to_Candy_Cane_Christmas_by_Darius_Rucker

Darius - multi talented ... from Hootie and the Blowfish, to Country Western, to this song which could be right out of the Great American Songbook ...

Thanks guys for sharing. I'd love to hear from more of you! Gary, that's really what I was wondering about, but I didn't do a good job of expressing myself. Thanks for reading my mind!

I've been doing some one hour shows at NH and been doing at least half the show with Christmas music. I think I'll start adding even more or do all Christmas because the folks seem to really like it. I'm trying to use more upbeat styles and adding some X-Mas multipads- makes a huge difference.

For those of you playing out, I'd love to see you're set list. Also for those home players, it would great to hear what you're playing for you're family and friends.

Happy Holidays!

Let's see,
Jingle Bells
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
White Christmas
Blue Christmas
Christmas in Dixie
I'll Be Home for Christmas
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Silver Bells
Pretty Paper
Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
Jingle Bell Rock
All I Want For Christmas is You
Let it Snow
Winter Wonderland
Feliz Navidad
Please Come Home For Christmas
Christmas Song (Chestnuts)
Frosty The Snowman
Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer
We Wish You a Merry Christmas
Deck The Halls
If We Make It Through December (that's a stretch!)
Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
Christmas Time Reminds Me of You (original)
On certain occasion, I do more traditional or religious, Christmas songs such as Oh Holy Night, Away In a Manger, Silent Night, etc.
I'm sure I'm leaving many out.
Also, I often start a style, say a 2/4 Country, and start playing a verse or so of every Christmas song that pops into my head, no vocals.
My all time favorite Christmas MELODY is Oh Holy Night. I think it goes back to days when I used to play in on trumpet, shortly after the birth of Christ!
Merry Christmas!

There are a few on Don's list that I don't know, and I ONLY do "grandma... etc." by request ...
But I also play:
Dominick the Donkey
Holly Jolly Christmas
Christmas Island
The Christmas Waltz
Christmas Time is Here (from Charley Brown's Christmas)
Chipmunk Song
Little Saint Nick (Beach Boys)
... and as Don said, for certain venues I add a set of the more Spiritual/Religious Hymns ...

I play most of what's in DonM's list, however, this year I decided to learn and add two songs I didn't know!

We Need A Little Christmas: (From Mame)

The Christmas Waltz: (This is a beautiful melody! Great for musette accordion)

All the standard "sing-along" Christmas songs are great, but sometimes adding a little 'personal touch' makes it even better such as this classic Temptations rendition of 'Rudolph'

(I'm sure Gary would look good in a raisin costume.)

(I believe Russ has a Temptations connection)

Good one Larry. I use the Blues Rock style of the PSR-3000 for this song once in a while, also use a Reggae Style that really gets the crowds rockin'.

Thanks,

Gary cool

My nomination for the worst Christmas song ever:
John Denver's "Please Daddy, Don't Get Drunk This Christmas".

I second that nomination.

Definitely one of the worst.

I do an instrumental to "Sleigh Ride." This from Wikipedia:

According to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers [ASCAP] review of Christmas music, "Sleigh Ride" consistently ranks in the top 10 list of most performed songs written by ASCAP members during the Christmas season worldwide.[1

On the PSR-S910, I use a purchased style called French50's, and I use a variety of great voices on the right hand. I use a Xmas multipad on a lot of my Xmas tunes to get that sleigh bell sound.

One of these seasons I'd like to do "Sleigh Ride" too. I always prefered the instrumental.

I agree, the xmas multi pad makes the style sound so much more festive.

Merry Christmas Beakybird!
