Anyone here playing this tune for NYE? What style? I always found the lyrics kind of strange. I'm not even sure what the heck Auld Lang Syne even means. OK, I'll google that:)

We do it as a slow swing or foxtrot....when the new year arrives....followed by the Mummers strut (a Philly thing)...what it means?...It means we get paid a lotta moola to play the tune..

Play it slow so they can kiss one another, then immediately after do a jumpin' up-tempo version. Down here in Louisiana, I usually go straight from that into "When the Saints Go Marching In" and make everybody parade around the room.

I play it slow then like Fran, go right into the Mummers Strut, then a medley of traditional mummer tunes ... I don't get paid as much as Fran however.

Given that my good lady is from a small hamlet in Scotland (ok, Glasgow) I figure I should at least advertise the Robert Burns Birthplace museaum http://www.burnsmuseum.org.uk/ which is very good (I've been recently).

I use a "Slow Slow Quick Quick Slow" arrangement then put an some Scottish Country Dancing music because everyone is so busy giving each other New Year greetings or trying to call relatives that there's little chance of any dancing anyway.

We use New York New York to get everyone organised into a circle before 12 O'clock so we can launch into Auld Lang Syne pretty much in synchronisation with Big Ben's first Bong.

The custom style I use for this is called Lombardo2, it has the correct intro, ending and OTS voices. The style also fits perfectly for Moonlight Serenade, which I transition into with the ending of Auld Lang Syne. Everyone older than 40 is on the dancefloor at that point, and when Moonlight Serenade ends, Old Time Rock & Roll kicks in. Makes for a fun night.
