I liken a fine camera to a fine instrument... there can be a big difference when you buy quality. I don't know anything about photography, actually, but wow, these pics are really outstanding, as far as detail goes. Cool lighting with these shots.

Bill,
Awesome pic !
And even more impressive it was shot with a Pentax K-5 and DA 50-135 zoom.
Willie Nelson's a true living legend.
Thanks for sharing.
Scott

Haha, is that a cheap camera and lens, Scott? Is it digital or... never mind... I see that it is digital and it's $1,200, so, it's not high end but it's not cheap.

Bill,

Having been a professional photographer for more than three decades I can unequivocally guarantee you that like musical instruments, the camera is no better than the photographer. The posted photo is fair--not great, at least in the eyes of a photographer. The photographer was fortunate in that he was using a digital camera, which in contrast to film cameras, has the ability to amplify low light levels, while at the same time increase the depth of field. If he were trying to sell it to an editor, the editor would likely send the photo to his staff to have it cropped and shift the composition, processes that for the past two decades have been performed with a PC.

The biggest issue I have with ALL cameras is poor lens quality. It has only been in recent years that manufacturers have improved their lens' to where you can now have a single lens that has both high quality macro and zoom capabilities.

Keyboards have some of the same attributes. DonM can take a low-end Casio into an Italian restaurant and woo the crowds just as well as he does with a high-end keyboard. It has only been in recent years that arranger keyboards have expanded to higher quality, digital, and digitized sampled sounds. Add to this an incredible array of styles, programming versatility beyond the scope of anyone's imagination, and new features that makes many mid-priced arrangers fabulous work stations as well.

Cheers,

Gary cool
