Oh, my, this KICKS BUTT! Muddy Waters version. Sheesh, this is better than Wilson Pickett's to me! This might be the best blues rock song in history! Luv it!

If I could sing like Muddy Waters, I'd be dangerous. Of course, I'd prolly be dead by now, shot by some jealous man. Man, he's got it goin' on!

Great tune, and great singer, and the Tyros4 has an onboard style just perfect for the song...Blues Rock.

Muddy Waters was always a favorite of mine, Bill...I also like how The Commitments do this tune as well.

Here they are "live", back together after 20 years, and still cookin'.

If you haven't seen the movie, do yourself a favor and rent/buy it...the soundtrack is killer.

Mustang Sally

I betcha Cassp does a great job of this tune...he has the voice for it.

It even works great as an instrumental.

Yeah, I didn't listen to his, I was so enamored with the new find of Muddy Water's version. Hard to pick, either are great. Now, I'm gonna go back listen to Muddy Waters again.

Seems like some cover bands I've heard do this song play it a bit too fast.

Spot on...it has to have a lazy, laid back feel to it...many groups play it too fast.

A tempo of about 115 bpm is perfect.

I like a tempo of 120 using the Yamaha style, which is dead on the money.

Cheers,

The tempo of the Muddy Water's video Bill posted is 115 bpm, and Pickett's video is even slower at 110 bpm...but, I'd say 120 bpm might be a little better for dancing.

The default tempo for the Yamaha Blues Rock style is 120 bpm.

There is also a Yamaha Premium (or maybe it's a DOO) style, that also works really well, called Dublin Rock...it's default tempo is about in the middle at 116 bpm.

No matter what one of the above tempos are used, it is a really great tune.

Mustang Sally.....

Bill.......you can really pick songs! I love your choices.

Ian....I thought the Committments version was great, but many don't like it because they think it's too "clean".....not "gritty" enough. I also think he did a tremendous rendition of "Try a Little Tenderness."

Bill

I have some revealing news for you. That is NOT Muddy Waters singing.......only someone doing a photo-op with his pic. That is the Committments version. At appx.55 seconds, the same thing is said in both versions:

"sing it cool all the time, girls"

also...the Youtube video says 4 minutes
the Committments track goes 4:02 minutes

You're right...sounds GREAT as a Booker T type B-3 Solo!

Do it every time I play B-3 at my Club gig.

Yep, I guess someone not paying attention stuck the wrong heading on the vid. :-) FWIW, I'll take Pickett's version any day. I just love the Committments movie, though - even been known to quote at random from it now and again. When Joey the Lips turns up for the first time, the dialog goes like this:

Who was that?
God sent him.
On a f*****' Suzuki?

Hilarious. I identify with so many things in that movie, but I saw them live about seven years ago. They're right in the genre of Irish Show Bands. They were okay, nothing shattering, really.

My band used to play Mustang Sally ... then we started playing in a club that had a clause in their contract ... "NO Mustang Sally" ... I don't think we have played it since lol

That's weird, and funny, Nigel. Reminded me of a time when a Night Manager at a USAF NCO club forbade us playing the Beatles' Back In The USSR because he thought it was a "damn commie' song.
