Hi guys:

I've been "eavesdropping" on this interesting conversation and am curious about the cost of the Styleworks Software. My primary interest would be to convert sytles from other Keyboards and manufacturers into .sty files for my old Yamaha PSR-2000. In most cases, I end up "tweaking" the style's tempo and "Voices/Instruments" to suit the needs of the songs I write.

I work in several genres and never do anything with MIDI hookups but would like to be able to convert MIDI styles into .sty files as well.

Cost of software and learning curve involved would be my two primary decision parameters for acquisition. I'd rather spend my time composing and writing than doing "tech" stuff.

Thanks for this interesting thread.

Hi Dave,
it's not exactly cheap.

I just had a quick look at the site.

They used to have a demo version, couldn't find it.

Also you used to be able to buy for individual keyboards ie korg or roland etc which meant you could buy for a single destination keyboard ie yamaha, you could still convert from different manufacturers, but the converted style could only be used on yamaha.
Appears there's only Universal now which is rather pricey, unless I've missed something.

When I refer to midifiles , I'm not talking about song midifiles.

EMC does convert song midifiles into styles. Personally I've never had much luck with the type of songs I play.

Thanks, Donnie and Rikki:

Your efforts are appreciated. Looks like I'll just keep on "muddling" through the hard way... LOL!

Happy 2012,

Hi, and happy new year to all!

Just contact Klaus at EMC , and you'll get a demoversion. Sadly it works only 3 days, and not fully functional as I remember it.
I think he pulled the demo off the downloadsite due to piracy issues.

During the years I had a lot of fun and joy converting files, but do the editing mainly at the keyboards. And yes, there is some tweaking needed, but it gives you a good starting point.
Also I see there are some new layout and module in the last XP Universal updates, so I guess I have to take time to explore.... someday. smile

Cheers
GJ

Hi Jonny,
I can imagine klaus would have had some problems with pirating.
I would have thought the system he uses for protection would have made it pretty safe, though there's obviously some pretty smart hackers out there.
One thing I must say though, whenever something goes wrong, and one needs a new code for the software, he is very quick to respond.

Pity he dropped the individual versions because they were cheaper & a lot of people are fairly loyal to a particular brand of keyboard.
Probably to much work to keep all the individual versions upgraded .

Hi Dave,
surely there couldn't be any shortage of psr styles?

A lot of the editing / creating tools for psr's are free.
