Well, at least it seems that way. I still have a pair of PSR-3000s, and both still look and work as well as the day they came out of the box.

A couple weeks ago, Joe Waters provided an offer on the PSR-Tutorial site that I couldn't refuse--more than 50,000 third-party styles on a keyboard-compatible USB thumb drive. So, from my perspective it's just like getting a new keyboard for the $100 Joe charged for the completely loaded USB thumb drive. Just plugged it into the keyboard, pressed the User Style button, tabbed to USB and for the past four hours I've been playing some really neat songs that I previously didn't have suitable styles for.

In a sense, most new keyboards merely offer lots of new styles, voices, and a few extra goodies. The cost varies for the top of the line boards, but getting one under a couple grand would be considered a steal at best. The USB that Joe offers is the best of both worlds--lots of styles, some neat voices, and everything can be used on your existing Yamaha keyboard. Damned I love this new technology stuff. wink

Cheers,

Gary cool

Gary, obviously all the styles were not specifically made for the PSR-3000, so I assume many simply do not sound the way they are intended, or am I wrong? I'd hate to have to run over 50,000 styles through midi player, and/or edit the non compatible styles.

Perhaps this was already setup for you and the 3000 and was part of the package? Either way, it's a good deal, and I'm sure it's like getting a new board. Keep us posted as you explore all those styles, and have fun with them.

Larry,

The vast majority of the conversions work on the PSR-3000, including the T4, T3, etc... styles which were converted from a completely different format to .sty. So far I haven't found a style that will not work in the 3000, but I've just scratched the surface of this incredible tool. In order to go through all the styles I would need to be 40 years younger and be willing to work on them day and night. Of course, if I were 40 years younger I wouldn't be thinking about arranger keyboards. wink

Cheers,

Gary cool

Thanks Gary

It is incredible...80,000 styles. No wonder Yamaha is so popular

Talked to Gary today and he informed me that one of the stand out styles he discovered among the 50,000 in the collection was one for this song.

"Sukiyaki", a 1963 hit in the USA, sung by Kyu Sakamoto.
Kyu Sakamoto was killed in a plane crash in 1985.

Gary, looking forward to hearing your rendition, and sung by you in Japanese of course. grin

Scott,

I'm trying to master the vocals on this by listening to the original song and singing along phonetically. It's much more difficult than singing songs in Latin and Italian, which I can usually do after just a couple nights practice. Japanese is a lot tougher, at least for this old man. Fortunately, I have a great Japanese tutor in Stuart, Florida who says she will help me master the song.

Cheers,

Gary cool

Hi Gary

Doesn't Joe usually say that when he has a package like that that all of those styles are available on his sight, that it's just the convenience of having them in the form he's selling? Or, are their styles on your thumbdrive that aren't on his site? Just wondering.

Scott,
Many of us help support Joe's site by purchasing things like the 80,000 style thumb drive. Yes, the styles are available on the PSRTutorial site. For the Yamaha PSR and Tyros XXX owners it has been the best of all the sites available for information pertaining to these keyboards. I bought the thumb drive and have discovered dozens of interesting styles that I can work into my gigs that I might not have looked for on the website. It's pretty neat having them all in one place. Also, for a lot of us it it a write-off.

Deane

The drive just puts them all in one, convenient location.
