Just as a curious addition, the last time I saw Lightfoot perform live(before his stomach illness), the pedal steel guitar parts were played by the keyboard player, using a first generation Yamaha DX-7.
When I talked with him, Mike Heffernan, after the show, he told me he based the "steel" sound on an electric piano patch, and that his DX-7 had been modified with a Grey Matter Response E! chip. This allowed bending of notes within the chord.
Man, did it sound like the real deal.
How does the pedal steel sound in the microArranger?
