I've never been a Madonna fan, but IMHO this year's halftime show was one of the best I've seen in more than a decade. It was extremely well choreographed, the lighting was nothing short of spectacular, and the only flaw I saw was Madonna loosing her balance and nearly falling from the grandstand set's top tier. What do you think sports fans?

Gary, I concur.
First rate 1/2 time show performance by Madonna. clap
She looked and sounded terrific.
She's proven that she's still got what it takes !

Top drawer stuff. Didn't Cirque du Soleil do the choreography, etc.? Agreed, Gary. Best half-time show in years.

I respectfully disagree. She lip synced, she stumbled and her performance moves were labored. I think that the opulently over-produced show was used to cover the loss of her ability to be Madonna. " ... still got what it takes!" ... I can't agree.
Ciao,
Jerry

Stayed up to watch, loved the choreography, liked the tunes, thought she looked and moved OK, couldn't tell if she was lip syncing or not. Problem to me is the singing sounded like the studio, so if that was live I'm impressed. Alternatively, if that was lip syncing then that looked perfect too so I'm impressed at a technical level if somewhat let down.

No one's got near Mr Springsteen's half time show. He's not called the Boss for nothing.

@John
Hi I also stayed up to watch here from Yorkshire...certainly was worth it.
As for Madonna, she was definitely lipsyncing but it didn't matter...the spectacle was highly entertaining and professional.
The only regret to me was the outcome of the game!
I don't know anything about the game but love the name of the New England Patriots!

I dont see any excuse for lip syncing...if the lovely Kylie can sing live and put on a show (and her shows are something to behold!) I am sure Madonna is more than capable of doing it.

No comments on the half time show. But here in New England fans are weeping for sure. sick cry The traffic on my 55 mile commute to the Boston area which passes within 2 miles of the stadium where the Patriots play was lighter than ever. Even at 6:20 AM traffic is usually crawling. This morning it was more like driving into the office on a Monday holiday. The Starbucks near the office where I pick up a brew was more like a funeral home.

I thought it was sad watching a once proud pop star try to be relevant again. That's why she had LMFAO, Cee-Lo, Niki-Manaj, and Rapper MIA on stage with her; to "contemporize" the show for younger fans. She couldn't hold the audience on her own. When was the last time you and YOUR family sang Madonna tunes in the car on the way to the grocery store??? (as opposed to "Forget You" and "LMFAO - Every day I'm shufflin'"

I didn't appreciate getting the "finger" from Rapper M.I.A.

Who cares, the Giants won and that's all that matters. Sorry, Pats fans ;-(

PS...aside from British Singer M.I.A.'s flipping the bird while singing when kids are watching was uncalled for..And the shameless promotion of the show the "VOICE" all night long was a bit much.......
& yes it was ALL lip syncing......only thing missing was a Wardrobe malfunction ! cool2

Finger Flip

I just watched some of the performance - I think it would have worked better actually being there, lip sync wouldn't have been such an issue. Maybe the stadium cant support live vocal..who knows?

At least the Patriots have something to talk about tonight to take their minds of the rest of the event!

I saw Kylie's Aphrodite concert, she did something very similar last year, but of course it was all live:

I think they both draw inspiration from each other.

I don't care how much they hype up bowling (calling it "super" for instance), I'm just not a fan.

I'm glad I don't have Television, and I wouldn't waste my time watching rappers, lip-synchers and bird-flippers on my PC either.

Next thing you know they'll be doing this stuff at dart tournaments.

The thing that struck me was how odd it was to see her body all covered up with wardrobe.

At age 54, she's still getting around, although word is she pulled a hamstring at rehearsal. Was a bit stiff...

Madonna stumbles

The girl who shot the bird, that was truly lame.

How do you embed a youtube in here?

I have to say, she looks stunning for her age and is in great shape. As for the show,IMO, I thought it was over produced and reeking of overkill. I could not hear any of the music of the quality I associate with Madonna. I am still a Madonna fan however.

Guys, we get this cyclical discussion every year. It is what it is. Excess, showbiz, glitz, razzamatazz, and so on.

When we go out as OMB's we go to please our audiences, and that's what I'd think Madonna and co. probably set out to do as well here, I'd say that this halftime show accomplished that goal in probably 99% of its viewing audience.

The only difference between her show and ours (collectively) is possibly, nay probably, payscale.

Well, 'cept for DonM, Ian, Donny, et al.

I was gonna mention Tony Hughes as well, but then when someone asked him if he thought he'd make a tenor (read tenner) he reckoned he'd be lucky to make 7/6d. (Ye olde English joke). :D:D

Yes, Madonna looked good, and I thought it was nice that she maintained a level of decorum - which cannot be said for some of her co-performers ...
I actually heard 2 guys talking about the bird flip on TV today and one guy said he felt it was offensive, while the other guy said "stuff like that keeps it real" ... is that where we are??? we have to flip the bird on INTERnational tv to "keep it real"?!?!? frown mad

Bill, when you reply the 5th icon that looks like a screen is the one that will embed videos for you. If you have popups disabled the first time you click on it and pick a video type ( eg. YouTube ) you will have to then temporarily allow scripted windows and then do it one more time and enter the URL when it prompts you.
