Tonight my wife and I attended a dance and the music was provided by a fellow playing a Technics KN600 Arranger. I have always liked the Technics styles but this was the first time I heard one live. I have to say I was really impressed with the overall sound. The guy said he has had it for 3 years.
Real shame they are not made anymore.

Still awesome after all these years.
I would happily pay £5000 for a KN8000 without even hearing it.

I find that I am using my KN7000 more and more on gigs these days and my Tyros2 less and less. I have never been able to replicate big band sounds which I use a lot as well on the Yamahas as on any of the Technics boards I have had over the years, right from the KN2000 onwards.
The only field of music which I use that the 7000 does not quite match up is in the theatre organ department. But that is only because I have special software installed in the Tyros.
AND don't talk about the keybase. Technics - brilliant. Tyros- mmmm - adequate?
I just hope the KN7000 will keep going until I reach 100 in 2028. As long as I can find someone to carry it for me.

I also liked Technics, and thought it was ahead of the times.
The KN-7000 was quite a keyboard, although I wasn't crazy about the sunken key bed.(Sorry Trevor, I disagree with your keybase opinion)

I also never liked the file structure of Technics keyboards, example, recorded songs were a default save as a Technics File rather than a midi.

Trevor, Not sure if I agree about the big band sounds, but one thing is for sure, you can explore many third party styles and sounds for your Yamaha T-2, and I'm sure you could find suitable big band sounds. Your Technics KN-7000 is limited in obtaining new stuff when they decided to suddenly throw us all overboard without a life jacket. cry

That being said, I miss the KN-7000, and would even settle for my ol' KN-3000 to mess around with. Loved the sax and organ sounds.

I had a 6000 for a while--it was a great keyboard. As for service, there are still several independent shops that repair Technics keyboards and some have a fair supply of parts on hand.

Cheers,

It was a huge loss for the arranger industry when the most innovative and leading company left the market.

reason. The division did not make enough money. Sure they made money for Technics, but when PAnasonic took over Technics they decided it wasnt enough.

Slight correction

Technics and Panasonic are part of the Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd and it was this company that killed off the Technics Musical Instrument Division NOT a takeover by Panasonic. (JVC are also part of the group as was National)
