I once played on a low boy trailer in a cemetary on Halloween night with a country band in the early 80's- the owner was a fan. Funniest thing was the cops came and shut us down for being too loud. Who did they think we were gonna wake up? True story.........

I played on an Amtrack train several times, on VIP trips from Dallas to Ft. Worth and back.

Like Diki, I have played Department stores for nearly 20 years...My wife works at Boscov's..and I am always asked to play events like "Friends and family day" etc....Sometimes I am in a main isle, other times near the ladies sleepwear, sometimes near the candy dept...My favorite location..near the escalator. smile .Customers love the idea of "live" entertainment while shopping....

Weird thing about this shot is, I've NEVER played anything like this before, and only did the gig as a one-time favor to a lady friend of mine that wanted something different for a store promotion she was putting on.

But no doubt, thanks to the Eternal Internet, it will get trotted out for a laugh for the next decade or so. I didn't even post the shot, and was mortified to learn it had been put up.

Shame that, from the same source, something like this isn't being used:

or

but that wouldn't be HALF as funny...! (for you guys, anyway) And trust me, this doesn't even register on the Weird Sh*t-o-meter of some of the things I HAVE done!

I've been fortunate to be able to perform at a large jewelry store every December for the past 8 years, one that is staffed by several very attractive, young ladies.

The most unusual job I've ever performed was for the Harford County Maryland County Executive, an election party that took place on November 15th and took up an entire city block of the town of Bel Air, MD. When I set up my gear on a large, flatbed trailer that was used as the stage, the air temperature was 40 degrees and cloudy. He won, the block party got underway about 8 p.m., and by 9 p.m. the temperature dropped to the 20s and snow began falling. Problem was that all the crazies were drinking enough booze to prevent them from getting cold, while I was on a snow-covered stage dressed in a tux. By 10 everyone was heading home, I dusted the snow off the speakers, packed up the van and headed home. I don't think I stopped shivering until after midnight - damned it was cold!

Cheers,

Gary cool

Thankfully, most of the TRULY weird things I have done were done before the age of this clinical addiction to documenting and sharing EVERY LAST DANG THING you ever did!

I am truly grateful I am not of the generation that will have every embarrassing thing they ever had to do (or wanted to do!) being trotted out on their grand-kids' smartphones in 30 years time for the amusement of all. Some things ARE better left to memory alone!

But an empty football stadium in Milan for an Elvis impersonator and 10 piece band booked by a clueless booking agent that didn't realize that, at Easter in Italy, everyone goes to church or spends it with family is pretty up there. That is, if you don't count every drunken bus ride with the brass band and my accordion. Ah...! Happy Memories! Fortunately, completely without documentation!
