On the Ketron SD1, when the arranger stops, the SYNC START is not reseted.

It seems that on Yamaha arrangers the Sync Start is just ONCE

You use it, and it come back to OFF

True?

I guess it depends on whether you want to play a free form intro, or a pickup before the ONE, or the beginning of an Intro where you don't play...

Sync Start has its uses, but it isn't something that you should say ALWAYS use.

Sync stop, OTOH, I have never really found a use for. I have always preferred using footswitches to do that.

I most always use Sync-Start, but rarely used Sync-Stop until the advent of Yamaha's Freeplay styles, which really benefit from it.

If I want a one bar stop/fill without needing a foot-switch, I generally program it into one of the Intros, or I'll use Ending I, hitting one of the main variation buttons before it ends completely.

I use two foot-switches/pedals on my Tyros4...one for sustain, and the other for volume.

Yes same here..only sync-start but if Korg were to emulate those fantastic Yamaha "freeplay" styles I would certainly be using the stop as well.

I guess we can surmise, then, that, like using any other feature on an arranger, we all do things our own way. Vive la difference.

Dan, on Yamaha arrangers, it depends on how it is used.

You can use SYNC-START to start style/rhythm by playing a chord, and then to stop, press the START/STOP button, whereupon the SYNC-START does not reset....or...you can start your style/rhythm using SYNC-START and then to stop, press SYNC-START again, whereby it resets to on and the style will play when a chord is played.

I use the Sync Stop on Rolands to force a retrigger if I release and re-press the keys in the chord area. This trick gives me some of the flexibility Yamaha players enjoy with their "free styles" (styles for playing rubato.) This capability is especially important when playing traditional religious music, any song without a regular percussive beat, or where the time signature changes partway through.
Thanks for asking! -Ted

Don't get me started! Every time I start using Sync Stop I can't stop using Sync Start. I mean, just stop it!
