Hi
I turned on my Technics kn7000 keyboard the other day and attempted to load up a particular song by name from my sd card. Instead of the name that i saved my settings too for that particular song it read 001KN7. As I scrolled down to next folder it read 002KN7 for all the songs in this folder. All the songs still seem to be here but I dont know one song from the next beacuse all the names have vanished....huge problem!!!
Silly me didnt back this sd card up so was wondering what has happened and is there any way to retrieve the names for all these songs.
Hope you can help!!!

This can happen if you turn the keyboard off too quickly before it has finished saving the last song/setting/registration to the SD Card. I do not know how you can retrieve that lost information and I guess the only other answer is to work slowly through everything you have saved recognising them and renaming them - could be a nightmare!!

Hello,

have not made a backup of your SD Card?
A backup takes 3 minutes. If you had to write all the names of folders and songs, it takes 1 month!

Try again following:

1.SD Card into the KN 7000
2.Load a song that you know from your SD Card.
3.Save the song with his real name on the SD Card.

It is possible that then all names are read.

Hi Gilly,
The 'long' names of the songs on your SD Card are stored in a file on the card which is called 'KN7000MN'. It is probable that this particular file has become corrupted frown

However, there is a chance that you can recover the data which is normally present within that file.....
Located on the SD Card, there is a backup of the data which is normally contained in the KN700MN file - this file is called KN7000MN.BAK

Depending on how 'Savvy' you are with a computer, it is possible to recover the data from the KN7000MN.BAK file and copy this to the corrupted KN7000MN file, thereby restoring the 'Long' filenames in a single operation. This process assumes that the KN7000MN.BAK file has not been corrupted....

If you want to try this, post back and I'll send you the procedure. You will need either a USB SD Card Reader/Writer or a Laptop/Computer with a suitable SD Card slot.

Not entirely necessary to copy anything. "IF" the bak file is uncorrupted delete the KN7000MN.INF file and rename the KN7000MN.BAK to KN7000MN.INF

If you then see all your names the next time you save anything to card a new BAK file should be created - unless you are still on an early operating system that did not create backup files in which case you are out of luck for a shortcut.

P.s. if you save anything on the card before doing the above you will just embed the lost names in the backup file and definitely lose everything.

Hello Gilly,
I once had this misfortune
I thought I would like to stop the file being saved by turning the keyboard power off.
I payed the price and now know that you must not interupt the loadig or saving process

Hope other Forum members remember the punishment for interupting the action when saving ---- once you have asked it to save DON"T interupt it . .

Yes I had to do the hard thing and rename the SD Card names of song again .
It you have a power cut it probably does the same thing
These comments wont help you Gilly but a warning to other KN users

Hi Gilly,
I tried sending you the recovery details via the email address in your profile, but it was bounced back to me as undeliverable frown
I guess that may be an old email address??
If you send me a request to the email in my profile, I'll get the procedure to you

Hi Gilly,

If you, or anyone you know, have Fred Mellincks 'KN SD Explorer' software, perhaps they will load your SD Card in their computer and ask it to open with the 'KN SD Explorer' tool. This automatically shows the File (and name if any) plus all songs contained in that file complete with the names and/or numbers you have given them. You can even sort them in alphabetical order and save an Index of that card. It is a very clever piece of software and I wouldn't want to be without mine as it is a real time saver.

Just an idea!

Gilly I am one of those who turned the keyboard off before it was finished saving. I could not find a way of retrieving the names so I loaded each song – renamed – and then resaved. It was not as bad as it sounds. When I was done the data/songs were in better order. And I was much smarter.

Audrey, Fred's program will not help recover the 'Long' file names if the KN7000MN.INF file is corrupted or missing - as I expect is the case with Gilly's SD Card......
In order for any program to read the 'Long' file names, the KN7000MN.INF file must be present and intact.

Hi Bill,

Yes I guess you're right. What a shame though, it would have saved her so much 'hassle'.
I hope Gilly gets it sorted soon. I know the feeling of panic (and frustration) when something isn't quite right with my keyboards.

All the best - Audrey

Hi Bill,

I learn something everyday - although I've seen KN7000MN.INF file on my computer, I had no idea why. Luckily I tend to "leave well alone" and rely on people like you, Alec and Fred to come up with something simple to use.

Hope you're keeping well.

Audrey
