Thanks Donny. Yeah, my mixing (and equipment) has changed radically over the years. But these were recorded about 12-15 years ago and were my first foray into recording my own material. Just found an old CD last night and thought I'd stick a few up. One downside has been since I moved away from the Korg (I added a Karma to my Trinity later on) and the VS1680 and moved to a controller keyboard and Cubase with VSTs.......my workflow has grind to a halt!! It was all so simplistic before but now I end up fooling around so much with VSTs I forget to record any new material!! I am on a mission to get myself sorted though.

Stein, these are really nice tunes...catchy hooks, and some really well done strings/pads...the drums are also a standout, as are your bass lines.

Your "style", at the time, is evident throughout the tunes and is pleasant to listen to...the vocals, and harmony are perfectly balanced against the background, and your judicious use of the vocal harmony is commendable.

Altogether, a nice package of tunes, with very well crafted and interesting lyrics...also, the words are easy to make out.

PS...Only one tiny criticism...the endings tend to be abrupt or cut off.

Well, abrupt endings or not, you certainly have the knack for writing a nice tune.

I am more of an arranger/producer/player than a writer/composer, and I appreciate good song writing.

I got an email from one of the studios we sold a Tyros4 to, and they say their production times are more than halved, and they are also getting more work, as the hours needed to do a decent demo are cut way back when using the styles (edited or not), in place of doing each track individually.

In other words, more people can afford to get work done there. They've already sold two of their non-Yamaha workstations, and have kept their fully optioned Yamaha Motif because they have so many unique files and other things on it (big investment, I suspect), and also a very coveted Kurzweil 2600RS Module.

Perhaps your next arranger acquisition (whatever brand you choose) will also benefit you in a similar way regarding work flow?

In any case, stay with the song writing...you have genuine talent.

Record labels haven`t approached you yet ? I liked it and appreciate your talent... its very nice. Enjoyed all four of them.

I think you should consider a T4. It will give you the sonic inspiration to pen more songs. The whole package in the T4 is just phenomenal; unfortunately the price too is phenomenal for my pockets. Have my eyes on the 950 though..

Just had a swift listen to 'Stay With Me'. I like the song, but can you correct the snare timing in places - very definitely off kilter. Nice overall sound, though. Thanks.

Only had a chance to listen to "Never Here". Very nice, especially the vocals. However, you've got to lose that drum that comes in at 00:53 and stays for the remainder of the tune. It doesn't fit (IMO) and even becomes annoying after a bit, ruining a perfectly good accompaniment track. Like I said, JMO though. Otherwise, very, very nice.

124 - at the time I deliberately put a syncopated snare hit in just to break the predictability of the beat up a little. However, all my work will be getting re-done once I get my new gear sorted out and there is a good chance the drums will be getting a major overhaul. Cheers for listening and your comments.

cgiles - originally this song was very much a stripped back piano and guitar. I'm never happy and always end up adding bits and pieces, hence how this had a few tracks added. You obviously would have preferred the original mix without the drum. Personally, I like it but like the above they'll all be getting re-done and I'm sure it'll sound quite a bit different once I'm finished. Thanks for your comments and opinion though. I take everything onboard anyone says to me regarding my material.

Ian - That's my thinking with regards an arranger. Just something to quickly get, at least, an idea in to reality with a song structure in place. I'm looking to get a new arranger and a Korg Krome so between checking the bank balance and getting a chance to try the likes of the Krome and 950 instore I hope to get sorted as soon as possible. Thanks again for your comments regarding my song writing.

great songs, great arrangements well sung. All i would add is that you can hold back on the strings a little in your songs but lovely never the less
