Excellent review of the Audya back in 2009 in Performing Musician Magazine.

http://www.performing-musician.com/pm/sep09/articles/ketronaudya.htm

It's nice to see that "just about all" of the problems have been resolved...patience seems to be a prerequisite for owning one, but, I suppose it all comes to he who waits. Henni is very happy so far.

Ian

PS...Col, if you are in anyways aware of the very busy (and scary) place that is our buddy Tony's mind, you would understand why he needs to be out of it occasionally.
Thankfully it hasn't affected his very capable keyboard playing....yet.

Yes indeed, and when I turn it on it is always the start of something beautiful.

Hi Ian,

You have to agree that it was brand new, as yet unexplored or unproven technology when it first came out. So sure, there were teething problems. But I follow everything I can find about the Audya & all seems to be well with everyone these days. And very soon yet another OS upgrade will be released.

I still maintain that many issues were software related. Just last night, I messed up big time again & lost all my recent sound & style updates. Luckily, I do not give up easily and are sort of semi computer skilled. So before I left home for work this morning, all was back and running as good as before again.

The Audya, like a PC, boots from HD. If one tampers there & messes up, you WILL pay the price - PERIOD. Same with any version of Windows on any PC.

So, many similar issues were blamed on Ketron. This was now already the 2nd time that I've messed up on mine. 1st Time TWD send me the restoration DVD set which I believe would have solved many others woes over the years had they just ask for it.

I am EXTREMELY satisfied with my Audya. Not a moment of regret or boredom since I've had it!!!

Keep well all my friends,

Henni

Audya is a very nice well thought out great sounding arranger KB....I enjoyed playing it even before it was even introduced at the lab in DE., I owned and performed with many Ketron units also, never had a problem, but its that "just in case' scenario that worries people,....IMO it's the "service and support, availability worldwide," that Ketron needs to address,...a revamping is needed and that coupled with some good PR work to put them on track again.

My primary concern about Audya's remains the paucity of 3rd party styles, particularly US biased, and particularly audio styles.

After all, if it is the audio styles that put the Audya head and shoulders above the others, where does that leave us who aren't served that well by the 'ROM' styles..?

And yes, a secondary concern to those of us that need bulletproof equipment and rapid service in the event of an issue. Few of us can afford a spare.

Ketron's problem is much the same as many other smaller companies...lack of R&D money...at least not as much as Korg or Yamaha.

However, they have managed, in spite of this significant drawback, to sort out the many issues and teething problems inherent with such radically new technology, but, it took some time, and in the interim, more than a few users became less than happy with the instrument, and moved on to other brands. Fortunately, after the fixes, some returned, probably due to the great sound.

It appears, at least in Henni's case, that (a) He purchased at the right time, after much (if not all) of the issues were sorted.
(b) He has the gift of patience, and a positive attitude, which has certainly worked in his favor.

This type of audio style technology will be, most assuredly, further explored/developed by Yamaha, and maybe Korg, as it definitely has it's advantages in certain situations, although I can't see it replacing midi based styles altogether, as they offer benefits not possible with audio styles.

A good balance of both systems seems to be the best solution.

Ian

PS...Henni, I am pleased for you that the Audya has provided you with such "extreme" satisfaction...I feel the very same about my recently purchased Tyros4, in fact I would go so far as to say, it quite likely will be with me for a very long time.

Satisfaction this complete, is hard to come by, so, we are both very fortunate to find our Holy Grails. Others, here, should be so blessed, and I hope they are as lucky as we two.
