I called DNJ and just got a text from him in reply. It says:

"We're o.k. No power for 7-10 days. Massive damage on the shore...no stores open...no lights, etc. Just have to wait it out..."

Trying to call Gary's wife Carol now.

I did get to talk to DNJ on the phone just now. They are o.k, and didn't get any direct damage, but the entire area is pretty much devastated.
Carol doesn't answer. I'm hoping she is with relatives. I do know there home is way up on a hill, so there will not be any flooding.

AS one that regularly goes through this nightmare, I can only offer my deepest sympathies to those suffering this disaster. No-one knows what one of these are like until you go through it. I wish all of you a speedy recovery...

I got Carol on the phone....she and the Diamond property are A-OK. She said Gary took off across Charleston Harbor this morning and had a rough go of it...but he is okay. Condolences to DNJ and all you Yankees who have been affected by Sandy.

Man, it's been years, but I remember just going without ice water as a kid for three days in New Orleans. No one can even imagine what that is like in 97 degrees and 97% humidity. We had an icebox not a refrigerator. So, we couldn't even get ice from the ice house.

Think about that and then all of the real misery on top of that. All I have to worry about now is shoveling a little snow and buying groceries and I still complain.

Wasn't all of the eastern area just devastated by an ice storm a couple years ago? Or, is my memory that bad?

Donny, Fran, Dave be careful.

Donny I imagine there are live electrical wires dangling all over the streets like New Orleans?

I wish the best for all of you yankees.

Donny best wishes, hope you folks get cleared up sooner rather than later. I think you know I have family in Jersey, they are further north and inland, but are without power and don't think they'll be getting it back until Novemeber 4th.

My neighborhood got lucky this time - we usually loose power everytime a light breeze passes by, but aside from downed trees and branches ... all I lost was a few days from work. We'll scramble to make up 2 play rehearsals, but all in all - it could have been so much worse. My heart goes out to all my friends in NY and at the Jersey shore ..l it's rough out there. Come visit us Donny - shower up and recharge here!

We fared ok in RI, but most parts of the shore are devastated here as well ... some beaches are 'gone' ...
Apparently our S-Z family made out ok and that is great news ...
Personally it was just a power outage for a little over 48 hours and about a billion leaves ... but fortunately no big branches or trees down ...

Thanks to All, everything is kinda back to normal now, it was scary, few lives were lost which makes us appreciate life even more and stop crying about how we lost our Armani shoes or shirts. Power was also of last 2 days, outside looked post apocalyptic, still kinda looks like that but things are getting better.

Just talking to some friends in RI about some mutual friends in SI/NYC/NJ/ etc. ... these happenings are always bad, but we often don't realize how bad until it touches home ...

The loss of material things - homes, possessions, even photographs that show family history - can be devastating, but losing family members and friends is real tragedy ...

Our prayers for strength go out to all those who have suffered losses of any kind during this storm ...

The well known town and historic boardwalk of Seaside Heights, New Jersey, loved by generations of families as a popular summer vacation spot, has been washed away by Hurricane Sandy.

Besides ravaging beaches, the storm swept homes off their foundations in some coastal communities, wrecked some boardwalks and knocked amusement park rides from piers in Seaside Heights.

So sorry for your families property loss but at least everyone is OK. We were only 10 miles away from all that when it happened and are shocked. We were so lucky and others lost so much. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

It's still a mess here as you can all see on TV of the devastation here....pray for all the people in need it will take a herculean effort to recover from this disaster....it's so sad to watch, families, children lose everything in and around where you live and grew up....were lucky to be safe at this time.
I hope anyone here on SZ and their relatives, families are ok also. Thank you everyone for the well wishes. As far as music,
I am only doing "local gigs" to conserve gas for some of the NH facilities that have power and I have been contacted by the AD's from many of them about entertainers that cancelled or cannot get to their gigs and will fill in for them to do a few shows this week, besides my own, the residents deserve something to smile about during this major devastation around here...
