I'm confused with the Yamaha PSR-S950 recall for a firmware update. In a previous thread, George Kay posted:
Quote:
I spoke with Steve Demming at Yamaha yesterday because he called wanting me to return my store unit for replacement due to a firmware update. I asked him what the update does and he hadn't a chance to find out yet. I'm hoping it might allow for recording with audio styles but I will have to wait to find out.

A few questions:

Why was there a firmware recall? And why was it necessary to send the keyboard back to Yamaha?

What changes are made with the firmware update? (that only Yamaha can do)

How do we know if the current keyboards already out the Yamaha factory door need to be sent back for a firmware update?

Factory returned firmware updates, early software updates, reported display problems. Seems like Yamaha may have been too quick to release this keyboard, but at least they are fixing...something... but what?

I've decided to wait to make a purchasing decision until this is cleared up.

I'm told they called ALL the early US shipments in before they were shipped to the dealers. They have been released now, so everything should be o.k. I'll know in a little while, as mine is on the truck for delivery.

There was a very small # of units shipped that had an issue. It was was of a nature that we were not willing to just let customers experience it, if we could help it. The effected units are being replaced. If you order now, you will not be getting one of the effected units.

Thanks Steve for replying to my email and posting here ... and for calling me today. This is why Yamaha is #1 for support and why I'm leaning S-950.

Still...I'm just a little curious as for the original recall...was it the display?

I've been waiting all day and the truck still hasn't come. I have to go to work in an hour, so probably won't have time to play with it today.

Larry, I understand your curiosity. If I could discuss it I would. Just rest assured that it is taken care of.

Steve,
What OS version should be installed on our S950 keyboard when they arrive?
Mine arrived with version 1.02.

Steve, you know that sooner or later, someone will find out. And Yamaha's secrecy will be viewed poorly. If the issue is being fixed, where's the harm in telling us?

This reflexive corporate wall of silence rarely works out well...
