I always loved his music. What a legacy he leaves behind.

How sad! I saw him with his children at Center college in Danville, and he stayed at a hotel I worked in Lexington several times.

He was Steve Allen's idol, and Steve was one of mine. Allen talked endlessly about unique time signatures, chord inversions, etc.

Steve wrote "Gravy Waltz", partially because of inspiration from "Take Five".

A jazz "giant and innovator", for sure.

And, one of my all-time favorites. Talk about longevity! He was still playing regularly in his 90's.

One of the greatest jazz innovative geniuses of his time ... Saw him live a few times with Paul Desmond, Eugene Wright, Joe Morello ...
RIP

Dave is truly a jazz legend that will be missed .... but never forgotten. This is so very sad. He leaves an awesome legacy behind.

Mixed memories of Dave. . .I went to see him when I was in college in the 60's. Great show, by a great talent! Only thing I had a blind date. I will never forget, it was in September and the temperature was around 100 and the girl wore a wool sweater and was wringing wet with sweat. She was probably nice, but I couldn't get past that sweater!
RIP Dave!

The man that set the world a-struggling with 5/4. smile He made it sound so smooth though, didn't he? R.I.P. Mr. Brubeck.

Am I losing my mind? It seems I was playing "Gravy Waltz" before I even heard of "Take Five."

Straighten me out here.
