I think, on the whole, that the 'oriental' study method (if that's how you want to label it) has one significant flaw... Sure, it churns out PLAYERS of the highest caliber, but they aren't WRITING the music they perform, or what little they do, it still apes existing westernized music.

What ORIGINAL music has ever dominated world awareness from that school of thought? Even 'Gangnam Style' is little more than an aping of 'I'm Sexy and I Know it'. Rap and techno sure didn't originate in Seoul...

I'm going to have to presume that they bought the actual big band chart for this. But, I'll bet it was fun transcribing the sax, piano and trumpet solos note for note, let alone playing them note for note.
