Thanks Donny.

At the risk of stating the obvious, well played music is well played music. Dueling banjos is not my thing but this guy did a good job with it. I'm sure his audience would enjoy it.

Bottom line about audio drums... they are EXPENSIVE!

Let's face it, want a MIDI drums style, one guy in his bedroom can do it. If he is talented enough, it's one for the ROM section.

Want an audio drums style? You need a first class studio, first class drums, and a first class musician to play them (then a ton of editing afterwards).

They have to cost ten times as much as a MIDI style to make. Even if you use a MIDI kit, a MIDI guitar, maybe even a MIDI wind controller, there's no need for a full studio. You can still do it from home, and email the parts around to those MIDI musicians in THEIR bedrooms!

This cost issue is why you will NEVER see audio drums styles in the kind of numbers and variety that MIDI styles allow, and you will have to pay a LOT more for them...

Of which, Yamaha has no shortage. Listen to their demos of their electronic drum line, or some of the kits from the MotifXF and you'll see that Yamaha ARE capable of making punchy, dynamic kits. Yamaha actually make GREAT drums too... so they don't even have to buy or rent a kit to sample!

No... the only reason there aren't great kits in the Yamaha arrangers is Yamaha's refusal to put them there.

Roland don't seem to have a similar problem. They make great (arguably, the most popular) electronic drum kits, approved by drummers everywhere. Multi-velocity drum samples, honed over years to provide a realistic dynamic, sampled with the kind of 'air' around them that drummers expect to hear. Then, they let the arranger division use those samples..!

Yamaha, if they took a leaf out of this book, would never hear a bad word about their arranger kits ever again! They already HAVE the samples. Just not the will to use them.

MESSAGE TO NIGEL:

Hey Nige, maybe you should give Donny his own sub-forum to post his very fickle keyboard selections, and the ensuing MOUNTAIN of crap that gets posted following each new epiphany -

And restrict him to posting this crap ONLY in that forum...

Dennis..

PS: No offence Donny, but really m8, this is getting absurd!! At least then you could have your own little playpen for this weeks show and tell wink
