G'day folks, Question for The College of Knowledge.
As of yesterday my Technics PR903 piano only gives me mono in one ear of the headphones.
I have tried both HP jacks and other 'phones.
Before I start to pull it apart are there other possibilities or suggestions to offer?
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Ray

I should eliminate the headphones first. Try them out on some other equipment. Might just be the headphones jack plug at fault.

Hi John, tried that. Wish it was that easy. Thanks for the input.

Hi Ray,

I had this happen some time ago when using 'phones on my KN7000. It turned out to be just some deposit on the 'phones Plug or KN7000 Jack Socket.......
Try applying a little switch cleaner solution on the 'phones plug, insert the plug in your keyboard and rotate the plug a number of times to dislodge any 'muck' on the socket connections. Worth a try.............
Sometimes a deposit can be present on these connections and you can't see it, and it doesn't take much to make this type of connection fail - they are often only point contacts between the plug and socket.

G'day Bill, you may have solved the problem. 'Tis working OK so far. I had some solvent left over from trying to fix the SD slot (which still plays up) and the 'phones have not failed since.
This Forum rarely fails. Many thanks.

Does switch cleaner work for the SD Slot as well Bill?

Hi Rog,
I would be a bit wary of squirting cleaning fluid into the SD Card slot...... Are you experiencing a problem ?? If so, are you sure it is not a faulty SD Card? I've come across a couple in the past ten years or so......
I've never had any 'connection' problems in that area and I am continually changing cards. Many of the SD Card slots which I have seen (cameras, Laptops, SD Reader/Writers etc.) appear to have gold plated contacts - as do the SD Cards - so corrosion is liable to be less of a problem. Also, bear in mind that there is a 'wiping action' on the contacts, every time you insert and remove a card, which should help to keep the contact surfaces free from corrosion.
If you really feel that it is necessary to clean the contacts, you could apply a little switch cleaner to the contacts of the SD Card and insert and remove the card a few times in the KN7000 SD Card slot.
The problem Ray had with the 'phones connection is a bit different since the KN7000 jack socket will not be gold plated and I doubt if his 'phones plug is gold plated ! (although some of the high quality 'phones do have gold plated plugs...)
Unless the 'phones are in continuous use - being plugged in and out - there is liable to be a build up of atmospheric contamination on the jack plug and/or socket.

Mmmm thanks Bill - I think I'll leave well alone.
I change SD Cards regularly during an evening's performance with the girls and I noticed on friday that the usual push down of the SD Card into the slot and it stays down rather than pop up again wasn't always happening...like the recepticle in the slot was a bit stiff and unaccepting!!

Hi Roger and Bill,
I posted my problem with SD cards back on 29 July 2012.
The problem still exists only when attempting to insert card, which takes a few tries before the red light stays on and it reads the data on the card.
Curiously enough, once the card is received it stays connected forever, after the KB is turned off and on many times.
It occurs with any card I use.
The spring is not consistent in its action with the insertion of the card, as well, also, too !!!
That was when I was advised by others to try the contact spray!!!!!!!!!!

See Ya

Yup - I'm beginning to be a bit worried about the spring action in my SD Card slot too...
I must look up the technical details sometime and see what can be gently done to help.

As a newer member I can't help thinking that this Forum is alive and kicking
-----Thanks Nigel for your continuing input----

As a K7 owner, I find there are people that have been there and done that, and are happy to share so that others can benifit.

Long live the Technics forum site -----and I hope that if any Technics Original developers read these articles they will have their concience pricked---- Hope I live long enough to see a KN8000.

Ray I am glad for you that you have got your problem sorted out .

You're very welcome Dave. It is all you guys and gals that keep this forum alive. I think this is the only active Technics forum left online.

Thanks Dave, and welcome.
Only today a good friend brought his newly acquired KN 6000 (s/h) over to me to show me the problems he is having with it.
It appears to be contact problems, as all functions will activate at some time, not always, and not always immediate (like 10 or 12 seconds later) except the home page, which will not show in the screen at all. all other pages will open on the screen but not all will go the next level.
I was advised to try my magic contact spray but I referred him to a regular KB fixer for further advice.
I'm a lover not a technician!!!!!!!!
I may need to get back to this Forum later if he has no success. (With the techician guys!!!)
We do not realise how lucky we are while things are working OK, until they stop.

Thanks NIGEL for your comment re technics support---.

Technics enthusiasm on the forum verses Yamaha forum site
I can't help wondering
---5 Months ago we listed our Technics K7 problem.
TO DATE----5771 Views with 36 replies

Also listed help required on a Yamaha EL40 near the same date in August 2012.
257 views with 0 replies.

Now isn't that strange with no Yamaha enthusiasm after 5 months to what one would think was a simple problem.
Yes its still listed near the top in the Yamaha Forum page
