Maybe because the future availability of Zip disks is bleak? Does the USB perform any faster than the old drive ... or is that determined by the software limitations of the unit?
Hmmmm
How many zip disk does a person need? I am sitting on 50 of them now...more than anyone would ever need with a G1000
They can be found with no problem..
As for the Zip drives..I bought two as backups for my G1000..the original lasted almost ten years..and I replaced it...just fot the heck of it..since I had two new ones sitting here...They last if you take care of them...
So besides 50 plus zip disk and a new drive being stored...the G1000 did find another home...It couldn't keep up with the G70
Personally I would stay with the zip and floppy drives..on the G1000..
BTW: I still have a couple of the MegaFloppy drives..one used and one still new..and No...it is not worth replacing the floppy..The Zip is way better for the reasons mentioned...The MegaFloppy fools the keyboard in thinking it is a 1.44 disk..and you have to select the disk number...No where as easy for a search using the Zip.
I also have a few Zip 250 external (SCCI) drives..Two are still new..and two SCCI cards to use them with PC's .
Compact flash cards still work great with the G70..I have enough cards and pcmcia adapters to outlast my needs..
Now the USB drives for the new boards (BK5)..I have several 32g micro drives..
It isn't a problem stocking more than you need for any keyboard..I am still sitting on a couple thousand 1.44 floppys from my JV1000 and XP80 days
