My top shelf is constructed from two pieces of 1-inch box aluminum, slots cut on each end, and held in place with detent pins. Takes less than 10 seconds to put in place and works like a charm. I talked with their designers about the top shelf, they didn't like what I had to say. It was poorly designed, takes at least 10 minutes to put in place, and it takes up too much space in the van. I even sent Rock & Roller photos and drawings of my setup, but they ignored it and continued to produce their version. Mine is better, at least that's the general consensus of those that have adopted my design. Almost forgot: Mine only cost me $20 and weighs next to nothing. Gary

Looks intriguing Gary, do you have any more photos that will help me understand the design?
