My top shelf is constructed from two pieces of 1-inch box aluminum, slots cut on each end, and held in place with detent pins. Takes less than 10 seconds to put in place and works like a charm. I talked with their designers about the top shelf, they didn't like what I had to say. It was poorly designed, takes at least 10 minutes to put in place, and it takes up too much space in the van. I even sent Rock & Roller photos and drawings of my setup, but they ignored it and continued to produce their version.

Mine is better, at least that's the general consensus of those that have adopted my design.

Almost forgot: Mine only cost me $20 and weighs next to nothing.

Looks intriguing Gary, do you have any more photos that will help me understand the design?

I have them somewhere, Graham. I'll try to dig them up tomorrow afternoon when I get home and post them here.

- I would be interested in and appreciate seeing your plan as well Gary. I’m still using the original (red) cart that does not accommodate the shelf/shelves currently available.
- Has anyone used the top shelf as a keyboard stand?
Ciao,
Jerry

I got the top shelf and I don't like it at all. I watched Gary install his version and it's much more to our time line and needs. I'm going to try and send my top deck back. The cart works fine without it. It takes all of my gear perfectly.

I got to say my Rock n roller is the best thing I have ever purchased in a cart one trip in and one trip out the best.

Here's an old photo of the cart when I first constructed the top rack. The rack is made of 1-inch box aluminum and will support up to 250 pounds. I was able to sit upon the rack with no problems.

Using a hacksaw, I cut an opening in each end of each section of box aluminum. I then drilled a 1/4-inch hole in each end of the rack and matched it up with a hole I drilled in each handle. A 1/4-inch detent pin is inserted into the holes to hold the rack in place. The detent pins are attached to short lengths of braided stainless steel wire and attached to each end of the rack, just so I don't loose them.

Hope this helps. I'll try to post a video tomorrow if that will provide additional help.
