The instrument is called a Hackbrett, which is made in Switzerland.

My wife is German, and she just loved it.

It is not a German Beer Hall.
It is in Switzerland.
Similar Music, but big difference in Countries. wink
As a German I had to set the Record straight... grin

Eric,

Not having the ability to speak German or Swiss, I wouldn't know. It was forwarded to me in an email as a German Beer Hall, so I made the assumption that the sender knew where it was. Thanks for the clarification.

Cheers,

Thanks Gary,
have heard of a Hackbrett, but wouldn't have had a clue on what they looked like. As far as having the sound on my arranger, I'd always thought it was some sort guitar. At least now I know what it is.

Strangely enough we were watching a quirky little movie last night on a guy who was building a time machine, and in the middle of it he pulls out a zither and starts to serenade his girl friend. Makes you wonder how many American's serenade their girls frinds with Zithers instead of guitars?? haahaa

Only other time I think I've heard one was on Harry Limes, The Third Man Theme.

The most famous zither music from the movies was The Harry Lime Theme. Can't remember what it was about, a crime movie of sorts and a lot of it took place in the sewers under Vienna.

There is a local performer who appears at the Deutscher Club of Clark NJ and elsewhere under the name "Dr. Zither" (Dr. Bill Kolb, PhD.). He is quite talented. Bill L. and Mark may have seen him...
Dr. Zither .
