Any ideas? When I play, the sound/touch suddenly becomes dull and loses its brightness and warmth.

Usually if I change voices, or go eg from R1 to R2, or press a Panel Memory, it gets restored - but not always.

The Sequencer slider is up on full, and the light next to it stays lit. Happens whether Sequencer Play button is off or even when I'm in Sequencer too. And if recording in Realtime Record you can hear the point at which the sound changes. Yet previous recordings made when there was no problem can still play OK, even when the dullness has kicked in on the live playing Touch . )

Could it be dust inside? Or is there some type of software conflict? Or contacts/circuit just worn out?

I desperately need to record some accompaniments for my choir (we do all sorts of music) and have even been wondering if it's time to get another keyboard (kn7000 or Tyros 4, though very expensive! But would prefer to get my trusty 6500 working again !
(Incidentally, I've just tried clicking the links to repairer Mike Barden's site and that comes up as Error - does anyone know if he's still operating?)

Any ideas would be gratefully received !!!!

Did you try a factory reset on your nachine?(but make sure you saved all your work on disk before)

Turn off the POWER button. Then, while pressing the three lower left buttons in the RHYTHM GROUP section(ENTERTAINER, MOVIE & SHOW and CUSTOM) at the same time, turn the POWER button on again.

Hi Thanks.
No not tried that yet.
I have Expansion Boards (SY-EW01NX & SY-EW02NX)in the keyboard. I have it in the back of my mind that they have to be removed before a reset, but don't know where I read that. Do you know if that's the case?

And if so, whether it's simply a matter of unscrewing the base and pulling out?

Also, a bit confused that the expansion packs say the 6500kn has to be Version 7. I'm sure I would have checked/loaded the correct version when I loaded the expansion cards, but on powering on (with Digital Drawbar/Accordion/Sound Explorer buttons pressed) it says "ver 1.3"

Are you using foot pedals - if so try removing them and see whether you're problem goes away...

Hi Katrina,

Version 7 was for the KN6000, you have version 1.3 which is the lastest one on your KN6500. You can do a factory reset no problem with the expension cards on board, that won't affect your machine.

Thanks for your reply - have only been using Sustain pedal and problem still there when remove it.

Yesterday was able to play a whole piece, and for a while I foolishly thought the problem had gone away. But I accidentally left it plugged in overnight (the first time ever) and the R2 had gone peculiar when I tried it in the morning. The R1 was still OK, so I left the keyboard on for a while longer and when I came back, sure enough R1 had also gone dull. Affects R1 or R2, whichever I'm playing on - or in this case, not actually playing on.

I'm wondering if it's something to do with heat and circuit boards.

Ah! have just read Serge's info on the Expansion cards/version numbers. Thanks for clearing that up Serge.

So you're sure the keyboard's pointer to the flash memory location will not be affected when I initialise?

After reading your last post. I must agree with Rogers. No use resetting your keyboard. I tought it had something to do with the sequencer receiving a down volume command in the control track while you were playing along with it. But it looks like it is an electronic issue. You will have to bring it to a technician.

Good luck !
